"Low GPU memory detected"

Whenever I launch this game, it gives me a warning on the menu page that says "Low GPU memory detected. This may impact game performance." After I play for an hour or so, the game starts stuttering and I have to reboot my computer.

I have a GeForce RTX 2080 Super with 8 gb of VRAM, is it likely that my card is faulty? The game plays beautifully on the High graphics setting until it inevitably starts to stutter.

i have ths appearing on my rtx 4060ti 16gb. like my memory is low for my gpu. theres not a single game to date that can use all that 16gb gddr6 memory

It's a known issue. There's nothing actually wrong, it's just the game doesn't properly determine the amount of memory in that check and warns. The game should otherwise run fine.

I'm running a 4080 16GB these days and I don't get that warning. I do however get "graphics settings over recommended" but again it all runs without any issues.

I am getting this error on my 4080. Just ignoring it though as everything seem to run fine.

it played fine on my quest 2 using air link,now got a quest 3 and i keep getting this error and game wont even load after intro.im on an RTX 3070ti 8gb memory

I have 6900XT (16GB VRAM) and all vram is available according to perfomance overlays but also getting this message. Both on Quest 2 and Quest 3, playing through Virtual Desktop.
Btw it seems that it does nothing. I only have stutters from time to time but I guess it's more problem of my old 8700k rather than something with this error.

I got same issue and runs fine for while then stutters. I got Nvidia GTX 4070 laptop GPU 8gb VRAM. I am using Meta quest 3. I just got this laptop new and updated everything I can and I have no issues on other games. Temperature doesn't go very high running this so it's not a overheating issue. I guess it's just the game rejecting my video card. I have had 2 other laptops with gtx 2060 and 3060 and they have done the same thing too.
FYI, when the game was first released I had no issues at all until some of the updates. I think it was around when they officially introduced Mods it went bad

And when you then Alyx needs SteamVR to also be running witch takes another massive amount of memory. So when HL starts to run it has no where near the 8Gb RAM left. I notice missining textures etc when running the game. Not everywhere. But especially if you play the game for a while you start seing things having a blank color instead of a texture. The game still runs though. I dont know how to fix the problem. But I'm sure this is the problem, at least if you are using a headset from Oculus.

I have the same since the latest steam vr update.
In addition, afer a couple of minutes, the game starts running badly.

I got this with a 24GB 7900 XTX lol but I had 64GB RAM and no paging file, I just manually set a paging file size 16GB for the hell of it and the warning went away.

I'just downgraded Steam Vr to the previous version, but still I have this issue.
This is wierd... I didn't have this issue before, in the meanwhile I haven't update the gpu driver, but Steam VR got one or two updates and Alyx got this issue.
It is a real shame this game is abandoned by Valve.

It gave me this pop up no matter what gpu i used. So i decided to ignore it. Started with the 1080ti (11GB), 3070ti (8GB) and 4090 (24GB)

the issue is that, since I have this message, after a couple of minutes of smooth gameplay, maybe half an hour, it starts to stutter and the framerate drops a lot.
Never happened before.
