Oculus Rift S controller tracking with issues
Is it just me or do other people also have issues with controller tracking?

This happens often when I try to reload, when I want to heal myself with the syringe or when I hold the gun with two hands (this works fine but when I start shooting then it loses tracking again)
I also have the feeling that this is more likely to happen during combat

Its an awesome game so far but this starts to get annoying.

edit (solution):
I fixed it but I am not sure what exactly was the reason. I did following things:
Switched USB and Display Port multiple times.
Unplugged the cable from the headset.

Maybe it works if you completely unplug the cables from the pc and the headset for a few seconds and then reconnect it.

Switching display port also helps with flashing pixels

Tracking wont have anything to do with the game itself, it's more likely that you are occluding the line of sight to your headsets sensors.

Are you doing anything different that you normally would when you play VR? Perhaps playing with the lights out for the ambiance of someone watching? You need a fair amount of light for the Rift S tracking.

Mainly though you just might just have to work around the headsets tracking limitations and be mindful of how you hold your hands so that the headset doesn't lose your controller tracking.

Also you might wanna check reddit out for optimal tracking with the Rift S, there are some tips out there.

I turn on the lights everytime I want to play cause I am aware of that issue.

The weird thing is that if I try to cover up one of my controllers with the other hand on purpose it is still working.
It only breaks if I am doing one of the mentioned actions.

I will check the reddit thing out.

Check your USB drivers, tracking problems on the Rift S is usually USB relate.

This may or may not be related, but I had the same issue with the controllers loosing tracking and would remove the battery from the controller with the issue, reinstall it and it would (normally) start working properly. Got that trick from some forum. Then I started getting an error once I started the Oculus software saying the USB wasn't connected, when clearly it was. I contacted Oculus support and one of the things they told me to try was removing the "foam facial interface" (their words, not mine!) and removing the cord from the headset directly and reinserting it, making sure it's firmly in place. Also, "When reconnecting to the computer please connect the USB first then wait 10 seconds before connecting the display port". Once I completed these couple of steps, I haven't had a problem for the last couple of days. The cord going into the headset seemed to already firmly in place, but removing and reinserting seemed to help me, hope it helps you as well. Cheers

I recorded some footage and it looks like it might be a mix of software and hardware problems.

https://youtu.be/Pky7mD5qhIc

The first clip shows how the hands are lagging but as soon as I enter pause menu they are fine again. This only happens if I am at low health.
Funny thing is, if open the Oculus menu to see the virtual desktop, the hands move fine there as well.

The second clip shows how the hands start spazzing around as soon as I get attacked and it takes some time until I get full control back.
My hands are not even out of sight or overlapping each other. And as soon as I dont recieve damage anymore I can move my hands properly again.

Third clip shows how weird the hand moves when I use the syringe.

For the last clip I tried out Boneworks to see how it is in there. The gun also moves in weird ways as soon as I try to use it with both hands. Even weirder is that the tracking is not the only problem. Sometimes the gun keeps firing even though I released the trigger already.

I am playing in a well lit room, have the latest drivers and I am using a 3.1 usb port.
Apparently the only thing I can try is to remove the cables once and plug it back in.

Any new thing on that?
Bought Alyx today and I already experienced loss of tracking when I mainly played Beat Saber, but I thought I fixed them but disabled power saving and thingies.

Not the same issue as yours but it's still a tracking issue, I end up having my hands stuck near my "chest" and can't do anything except rotations. This isn't new from the Oculus Rift base but that's annoying. I don't mind having to restart Oculus services after a session of Beat Saber, but 30min in HL Alyx and my immesion is broken since I have to quit the game and restart all of this.

Also using a Rift S so... Either something is wrong with USB power management in Windows (but I've disabled every power saving function), or the cameras are really bad when your hands get close to you.

do you use a usb 3.0 or 3.1 port? if the latter, try the former. i myself had similar controller issues in some games. since i use an "older" 3.0 port, these problems are gone.
Rift S here - tracking is great. No occlusion, no tracking loss, no stutters

I had contacted Oculus support when I bought the thing, back in July 2019, for other issues (which turned out to be software related) and they never mentioned disconnecting the cable from the headset. This time it was one of the first things they had me try. Maybe they are finding the longer these things are being used the cable is coming loose(?). Wonder if that's what helped... Either way, glad to hear it's working again.
