Consider the following:
https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-RX-580-vs-AMD-R9-390/3923vs3481
https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-5-1600-vs-AMD-FX-8350/3919vs1489
and vs. an intel HEDT part from the same era:
https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Xeon-E5-2630-v3-vs-AMD-FX-8350/m22651vs1489
That's just one set of benchmarks, granted, but it paints quite a picture.

See, I would actually advise against buying such old hardware, even if it is still viable. The top end stuff for older platforms can still command a very high price, and you're ultimately investing in a platform that won't support another round of upgrades.
It's great if you already have it, but not really a good buy in 2020. Three or so years ago I would have said otherwise, but the landscape much is different now.
I'd invest in a midrange AM4 based system. Get a B550 motherboard when that releases and drop a Ryzen 5 in it. You'll be much happier and more future proofed.
I've been running on a 4-core FX-4130 paired with a 6GB 1060 and 32GB RAM which has been surprisingly OK for most games up until now (No mans sky, Witcher 3, AC Odyssey, Far Cry 5, Fallout 4), even for VR (Oculus Rift) (Arizona Sunshine, etc), but I hit a brick wall with Half Life Alyx, it completely tanked (even the start screen was unusable), so I have just bought an 8350 to squeak the last life out of the Gigabyte motherboard I have.
Fingers crossed it does the job. it was only £90, better than a rebuild!
