"insufficient graphics memory" + stuttering (low settings) despite rtx 2060 super (8gb)
on game startup i get a warning saying (roughly translated) "insufficient graphics memory, please close all programs, bad performance may occure".
and yes: game runs bad equally on low, mid or high settings.
it makes no sense...

any ideas how to fix this?

Specs:
win10
cpu: Intel i7 6700k
gpu: MSI rtx 2060 super (8gb gddr6)
memory: 16gb ddr4

What I tried so far:
- closed all other programs
- updaded gpu driver
- tried all graphic settings
- game runs on an ssd
-> no success

Up your virtual memory

I had this once, closed down all my webbrowsers and everything, spotify & discord..

Worked fine without complaining after that

Same problem on 2080 Ti

Reporting in, I have the same videocard and same issue!

I have random framedrops/reprojections, but other than that the game runs at a mostly high framerate. Ran 3dmark to double-check if my videocard is okay, and the scores are normal.

One thing to mention; are you using OVR Toolkit? For me that caused the low memory message (ovrtoolkit had allocated an obscene amount; you can check this in the windows task manager, under details, with the GPU n memory columns added).

Things I intend to do tomorrow:
A) Reset config/detection if I can find out how
B) Disable IGD (have my 2nd monitor attached to my mobo, never been really an issue).
C) clean driver install
D) disable game mode in Windows
E) clear any shader cache I can find (Nvidia's, steam's, window's)
F) try low custom steamvr settings

I'll report back if I find anything

Im having the exact same issue, also how do you up your virtual memory?
SC Mar 24, 2020 @ 1:32am
I doubt that increasing virtual memory is going to help anyone unless it's already at a custom setting and misconfigured. If you want still want to try, press Windows+Pause, click 'Advanced System Settings' in the left column, then to the 'Advanced' tab, and then click 'Settings' in the Performance frame. Then go to the Advanced tab and click 'Change...'. Best setting is "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" as Windows does a good job at this. If you do set it manually, set it to a max of roughly 1.5 times your physical memory.

That being said, I only had stutters in the beginning of the game. (around the first ladder), afterwards everything is smooth.

Please make sure you've updated to the latest Nvidia drivers

I’m getting this same message on an 8gb 2070s with 32GB of system ram and an i7 9700f - the game was also a little stuttery at times

All drivers were updated before playing.... and it seems for some of us, our gpu memory is being poorly sourced. The game gets to almost being unplayable for me.

I have a rtx 2080, ryzen 7 2700x and 32gb of ddr4
