Oculus mode
Will we (Oculus users) have the option to play in Oculus mode without opening SteamVR?

No, its a first party game made by valve that will never come to oculus stores

You're lucky you will get to play it at all. If Valve operated like Oculus you wouldn't.

Indeed, all games that are only on oculus stores can only be played using 3rd party apps on non oculus headsets, kind of like PC based console exclusivity

With valve, you could play on any headset

Games sold through Steam can still use the Oculus SDK separate from SteamVR. Though I doubt it in this case.

NO no, I'm not talking about the game coming to Oculus store. I'm asking if we are going to be able to choose between "run in steam vr?" or "run in Oculus mode" options when playing the game.

yeah, but i doubt a first party would do that

Exactly, I was just saying it has nothing to do with Oculus Store.

I assume that since valve runs steam you would need to run steam

No idea, but I'm not quite sure why it would matter?

Because SteamVR + Oculus Home= loss in CPU and GPU power.

I don't know what the oculus home is doing, but just running steam vr barely eats anything, especially gpu power which it doesn't use at all. ~200mb ram and <1% cpu isn't groundbreaking, compared to what you actually need to run the game.

well it would only be to see if valve would like to launch the game in the Oculus store, although first you have to see if the game is well received since if it is not valve you would not want to launch it on other platforms

I don't know the specifics but there is something going on that can make SteamVR more stuttery on Oculus HMDs. I've experienced it myself with a DK2.

OP can try OpenOVR/OpenComposite if they feel they need it for this game.

It makes no sense to offer HL: A in the Oculus Store, since every Oculus VR headset owner can buy and play HL: A on Steam. That would have no added value for Valve. Especially since Oculus is unfortunately not open to hardware from other manufacturers. At least not officially, because ReVive is only tolerated, created by private individuals and can disappear at any time.
It is more realistic that HL: A appears on the PS5 if Sony continues to use VR. That would be a new market for HL: A.

Valve will not release on a platform that deliberately excludes their own hardware.

But there are plenty of games (even Oculus exclusives) on the Steam platform that use the Oculus API.
