Cannabis cures motion sickness as well, if you're susceptible. Alcohol does the opposite.

being drunk is fine and fun, but do you really want to be responsible for a $800 worth of fragile equipment attached to you when drunk ?

I do both fairly often enough (most of the time I show my setup off to other people at gatherings) and neither is a problem. I mean, obviously you don't want to be fall down drunk. 3-4 drinks is no problem for me though.

I've had some drinks and have been messing around in VR today. Wasn't an issue. Granted I'm not ♥♥♥♥ faced or stumbling around. Plus, I'm playing sitting down.

Being stoned in VR is pretty awesome. I don't drink so I can't say.

What about LSD? What effect would that have on VR?

I have a good pair of VR legs, which lets me get completely trashed in VRChat without issues. It's so much fun. In fact, getting smashed is something that a lot of people do in VRChat. It can even help with the immersion by letting me get lost in the moment...

Loads of fun honestly. A discord community I'm in does drinking nights in VR every fortnight. It's even better when you combine it with full body tracking so you can see everyone flopping around in true to life detail. Then you throw in some weirdness like someone using a 30 foot tall avatar that can carry people in it's hands or on it's shoulders, and all sorts of crazy stuff starts happening. VR drinking gives you stories that make absolutely no sense out of context to non VR users.

Motion sickness has never been a problem for me, and never heard anyone talk about alcohol and motion sickness as having any relation to each other. If anything I'd imagine it'd blur everything together and let you ignore stuff more easily. Honestly, it's not a thing anyone I know suffers in general, within the VR communities I hang around with. You do just get over motion sickness after a short while. It's way over hyped by cautious developers.

There is the obvious risk of accidentally damaging your expensive hardware or hurting yourself, of course. That's simply down to you to judge the risks and try to prepare your playspace to be a safe area. Be careful of where you put any open drinks etc. Consider moving or protecting fragile objects. Try not to 100% lose yourself. etc.

The one other "drawback" of alcohol in VR, is that there is always no shortage of potential people to drink with, and no need to leave the house, which might tempt you to drink more often than you would have before. xD
