Yes, we know the term 'flat as a pancake' in itself, isn't intended to insult people. But the context in which it is often used here, most certainly is.
Blueberry pancakes especially.
Which is fine, because our brains fill in the gaps and when we play a '3D' game like say Grand Theft Auto, our brains are fooled into thinking it's a real 3D environment we can move around in, in all dimensions.
True 'flat' games are ones like the very early GTA games, prior to GTA 3, which were top down. They are 'pancake'.
We know why the term is being gleefully used here, it's just to divide people. It certainly doesn't help to bring people into the fold, which I presume is what VR fans want.
The average NON-VR fan in this forum: OMGOMGOMG WHY THIS GAME NOT FOR MY FLAT SCREEN, VALVE IS BAD, I AM ENTITLED TO MY GAME EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THIS GAME WAS COMING, REEEEEEEEEEEE
The average VR user: Ok pancaker
That is complete and utter rubbish.
Using the term, even if it is used in the context of a put down isn't offensive. It's the put down that may or may not be offensive. All the term is doing is defining a set of users for which the put down applies.
I think you are trying to use big words without knowing their meaning, I strongly suggest you go look up what 'plausible deniability' means and rethink that one.
Also, expand pancake out and into it's full meaning, i.e. flat screen, put it into any put down sentence and then read it back, I think you'll find it's the surrounding text that is the put down, 'not flat screen'.
