Existing index owners getting HLA for free

I was wondering why I'd received a refund email, now I know why - thanks Valve! :D

(I only have the index controllers and can confirm it's true)

If you still have the index controllers, you still get the game for free. That's how my setup is (htc vive base stations and headset but index controllers). Half Life: Alyx shows up in my steam library now but you can't download and play it because obviously it isn't released yet. Make sure your index controllers are registered to your steam account though. I think that might be how it's determined if you'll get the game for free

Yep, nice gesture to give it to us for free, even if we only have the index controllers.

Here's a bit more information on this.

Valve: "Owners of any part of the Valve Index kit, including just the controllers, will get Half-Life: Alyx free. Those who own any Index hardware before the end of 2019 will get a few bonuses, including 'alternate gun skins to embellish Alyx's arsenal.'"

yeah i too only bought the index controllers and the game is allreaddy in my library.
was going to add the game to my wishlist but notised that it was allreaddy in my library.

At the moment, Steam support won't help you.

Just beware that support will not guarantee the game is going to support library sharing and you won't get the exclusive content this way.

Everyone should keep politely contacting support until they offer an actual fix for this. Or at least get them to stop saying "owners" when they mean "purchasers".
