HEY VALVE! NOT EVERYONE HAS OR CAN AFFORD A VR HEADSET!
Are we just not going to talk about how this will be a $900 game for most people? Not everyone has a VR headset and not everyone has a computer capable of running them. Most people in fact don't so most people will not only have to drop hundreds of dollars on a headset but will also have to upgrade their system to run it.

I'm vehemently against pre-ordering but am a huge fan of Half Life and if I where ever to let myself be stupid and pre-order any game it would be this. But I straight up don't have multiple hundreds of dollars to drop on it. Why isn't there a non-VR play option? oh, right, to push your hardware just in time for Christmas. If it had a non-VR option you would have my money right now, today but ♥♥♥♥ me and everyone else who can't afford this ♥♥♥♥ I guess.

So,, you're mad this game isn't marketed towards you? It's not their fault that the newest and coolest form of storytelling technology is expensive.

Well, companies don’t have to cater to their audience... but I’ve heard it’s actually something really important.
Honestly, don't know if this will happen, I'm just talking out of my butt, but one could hope...

The game will most likely be VR-only for about a year or two. The reason why they want it to be VR-only is because they want to sell their hardware like you said. It's not a bad decision and it has been done before. Deadrising 3 was an Xbox One exclusive for a bit until it was eventually ported to Microsoft Windows a year later...

So come on, you've waited so long for this, what's a few extra years hurt? :steamhappy:

They can make a VR game if they want but the bottom line is they could have ALSO made it available to customers who don't have and can't afford VR by adding a non-VR play mode which is something OTHER VR games have been kind enough to do.

Maybe you're not hearing me though... ONE THOUSAND DOLLAR GAME! that's $1,000 or $1k if you prefer. how is it in any way unreasonable to complain about a game that costs more than my rent?

You can have decent PC VR for much less money, and it supports the whole SteamVR ecosystem (read: bscly every PC headset imaginable)

And direct your complaints to gabe instead of us, im sure if he gets an absolute crap ton of emails saying 'make hl3 damn you' something might click.

I complain about console exclusives also. it's an artificial way to sell hardware instead of making hardware people actually want to buy. but here's the thing, Valve's own headset costs over twice as much as any of the consoles and that's not including any hardware upgrades to your system that you might need. not ok

Yeah, it should have been a mobile phone game instead.

Don't you guys have phones?

You are highly misinformed, the game supports Windows Mixed Reality which can be purchased for under 200 dollars. It's VR only because you simply cannot replicate VR controls on mouse and keyboard. If you've played VR you'd understand.

I think you missed the point. that still makes it a $260 game bare minimum. not everyone can aford that ♥♥♥♥. and do i need to remind you this game, like the other's, is a first person shooter? Doom was both VR and regular FPS.

VR owners need some VR only games. This is what we need to see VR take off. It had to be done. These pancake games ported to VR aren't cutting it, that's why there is still such negativity for VR. but once there are some real VR only quality games and market share for VR grows then we will start to see way more incentive to get VR. VR is awesome, i held out until i got my Index on June 28th and i been playing every single weekend since June 28th despite the lack of super good quality VR games in the current market, but the future is bright!

A small price to pay for salvation.

Honestly, I own Spider-Man for PS4 and I love the game, but it's a real shame that other people from PC users and Xbox Users can't enjoy the game. It also kind of sucks too because if my PS4 dies for whatever reason, whenever that happens, I won't be able to play it unless I buy another one :(

Thankfully though if PS5 isn't terrible, I heard it may be backwards compatible so I'll get that.

But anyway back to Valve's equipment, yes it is expensive, but at least they aren't forcing you to buy it yet. Like I said, maybe we'll get lucky and Valve will release a PC port after everyone buys an Index so they can make more money off of Half-Life: Alyx with non-VR users. It's a smart way to do it.

well enjoy i guess while the rest of us sit over here and get told we're not allowed to have the next installment of a game we've all been waiting for for litrally over a decade. i'm glad YOU are allowed to have it.
