Naw, I think this game deserves a sequel.
Yeah, the story isn't deep, and the humor is kind of cringy.
But come on, story doesn't mean ♥♥♥♥ for this kind of adventure game, such as Grabbed by the Ghoulies, and Conker Live and Reloaded.
I think this game should be appreciated in the shoes of a kid.
When I first played this game, I barely knew English. So I had no idea what was going on.
I didn't care if Vince was trying save New Orleans from some nuclear missile bombs launched by some sort of terrorist or whatever. The plot ain't so important.
To me, the most important things are the intriguing world design, interesting puzzles, cool level design, and boss fight that involves much more than "point and shoot to kill".
The only thing I anticipated the most was what I would be seeing after the loading screen when I went into the dark alley?
Where am I going next? What kind of enemy will I encounter? What will I find in the secret passage I accidentally run into Is there going to be another boss fight? Will I get stuck by some puzzle for days again?
Back in the day, I didn't know I could be using Google to search for guides. So I might get stuck by some puzzle for a couple of days. That when I wander the map around for hours and ran into secret areas sometimes.
The sense of accomplishment I had when I finally get pass that puzzle is simply so satisfying.
Beep Games was doing God's work for releasing Voodoo Vince on Steam. They knew it won't be financially successful but they still did it for the fans anyway. How I wish Rare could do the same...
You don't find this kind of game developers around so often nowadays.
But I won't get my hope up for Voodoo Vince sequel. I know there's no financial incentive for Beep Games to develop a sequel for it. Kids nowadays are only attracted to victory dance animations and unicorn pink weapon skins. See what happened to Black Ops 4?
What a shame.
New game they are working on (with Tribetoy) https://store.steampowered.com/app/1228870/Bartlows_Dread_Machine/ The trailer has music that wouldn't feel out of place if it were in Voodoo Vince. (Edit: Its the same composer, Steve Kirk).
Not unless they did something like Beyond Good and Evil where it seems its a prequel and kind of disassociated with the main game
