What does the cable elevator do?

So I've been on a creative world trying to create an underground Europa base and I've noticed that there are 2 types of elevator, cable elevators and regular elevators. They both have shaft and level variants but the cable one has a bulge in the back with logic and power ports. I thought the cable elevator transmited power up and down the elevator, but when I tried that it didn't work. If anyone knows what the difference between the cable and regular elevator are can you please tell me

Cable connections allow for logic, like changing the speed. The version without cables does have the logic type ElevatorSpeed but I don't know how one would change that without a cable connection.

Is that really all? Feels like a massive wasted opportunity because it takes up twice as much space with so little of a benefit it might as well not have one

As far as I can tell it also distributes power. I have successfully used the cabled elevator to carry power between floors, though I don't know yet if there's a wattage limit or not, as in is it equivalent to a standard 5kw cable, or a 100kw heavy cable, or unlimited wattage?

Also I was reading that the cabled version came first and the cable-less version was added later, in the Feb 2024 update, for use in more confined spaces.

can you please inform me of how you achieved this. It would be a big help in my underground bases.
