Furnace bug?
I have just started playing the game, so forgive me if I’m missing something obvious. But I am trying to make steel in a furnace. Any time I drop the volitiles or oxites (or anything else for that matter) into the top of the furnace, the door on top shuts and won’t allow anything else to be inserted.

I have power hooked up and the pipes in the back are not connected to anything. I have watched a bunch of videos and they all show the same setup, but they can add more than one thing in the top of the furnace.

What am I doing wrong?

I should mention this is on the latest stable version on mars. I don’t have anything connected to my network that would send data commands to the furnace either, if that helps at all.

First thing save and reload - most time helps with something not working as intended.
It might need some temperature inside. Try activating furnace. In short, if devs made that temperature requirement for everything, including oxites and volatiles, we might have a little problem, where only one thing can put into cold furnace.

Some changes were made to the furnace an a previous update that has caused a bit of confusion.

If you are using Oxite and Volatiles ice to smelt try the following.

1. Input oxite (hatch will close)
2. Look at the furnace window and it should say x quantity of oxite inside, press the red button once for each oxite in there and they will melt once they have all melted the hatch will open again.
3. Repeat setps 1 & 2 for Volatiles it will begin to heat up once you've pressed the the button a few times.
4. Add Iron hatch will close until iron has melted
5. Add coal
6. check window and once the iron and coal is ready at a 3:1 ratio it should say will make x amount of steel.

Then you can pull the lever to drop the steel ingot.

Hopefully that will help and the furnace is not bugged for you.

It might be useful for the short term for the changed furnace method to be pinned on the forums for a while to help people out.

tip... use small amount of Oxide and volatiles.

Example put 3 red in there and 1 blue ( if i remember correctly )
And build the furnace somewhere away from your base just in case it deside to overheat and explode ;-) maybe also drill a hole where you can store materials.

TIP2..: if you dig a cave below ground, then your oxide and volatiles are in "shadow" and will not melt when you drop them on the floor ( drop it some distance away from the furnace ) example in a little hole in the ground ;-) you can also setup your furnace down there.

it seems the problem was that it was too cold outside to melt the ice. Spamming the activate button on the furnace warmed it up enough to add in the second ice type and ignite it, allowing me to add the iron and coal once ignited. I was told by a developer that this was updated in a recent patch.
