Want Cutom/ Own Game Settings back
I wish the old settings cutom game back. You can create your own world with all the advantages and disadvantages. Why was this and the research removed, and when will it be reinstated?

the a very good Question , I don't understand why this was removed

I actually enjoyed the research mini game, as rough as it was when it was still in game. I always hoped, and still do, that they will re-introduce it.

And the custom world settings were nice as well. Maybe we will see those again. Hopefully.

This probably lends itself to earlier made posts from some players who screamed repeatedly to remove items that weren't working, while another portion of players asked to keep broken items in play.

It's the Kobayashi Maru for devs.

I liked this concept as well. It gave your base purpose and gave the player something to work toward beyond breathable atmosphere and food/water.

Research as it was implemented was horrible. Also it doesn't make sense except for advanced mechanics. I am not against the idea at all but it wasn't going anywhere the way it was.
Overall I would like more options when it comes to starting condition and different planets. But I guess thinks like that will come later when the new systems are in place. I hope.

Game doesn't need research as progression is handled by production tiers and alloy advancements.

Agreed, at least with how the game currently progresses.

I wouldn't mind science research as trade tasks or unlocks for higher end equipment yet to be introduced for an even better QOL option.

i don't know why custom worlds was removed, but i'd imagine it had to do with the terrain update they have been working on. it would also need to be reworked. if there where problems with the custom world settings, they would rather remove it and reinstate when the terrain update deploy's, will it come back after new terrain update? who knows, i liked making a pure X/pollution world with atmo so i couldn't farm atmo for useful gasses, (this was before phase change and liquids) and still have storms. otherwise i was stuck with using Luna. i also liked tinting the ground blue.

Devs explained it was mostly changed due to multi player desync.

I hope this is brought back in some form though. Not having options is a big step backwards.

Custom worlds were not removed. You have to author the custom worlds, using XML, and then everyone who wants to play that world needs to have those settings.

What happened was that the development team exposed the developer "custom world" settings button, but this was effectively completely broken. It did allow you to preview some changes, but it was entirely broken in multiplayer. Given the amount of data and change it required, as it was not fully deterministic, there was no realistic way to sync all that changed data nicely over multiplayer.

Instead, we moved making worlds into data. This allows people to make and share worlds, and actually be able to play them in multiplayer. There were also hundreds of bugs with the "custom world" created worlds - that would not directly manifest them to users as being because of the custom world.

We would like to, in the future, add user interface to make the process to make player generated worlds easier so that players don't need to go into the XML themselves. However, the project has always cost more money to develop than we make in revenue - so we try and keep the focus on the absolute key things.

At the moment, the key focus is on a refactor of the terrain system. This is, similar to above, because of massive and extensive performance issues and severe bugs with the old terrain system.
Thanks for the detailed answer

Thanks for the reply Rocket.

I am curious though about settings like food and water, oxygen use and things of that nature that are not directly involved with the actual world creation (i dont think they are) but simply modify our stats.

We had those before and I am pretty sure they are removed too, as I have not been able to find any.

Same with adding and removing starting equipment and such. Those things can go a long way towards longevity/replay value of the game.

So to sum it up, I understand there are technical limitations to the custom worlds, that require serious effort but is there any hope of seeing some modifier options like I mentioned above?

I know it is only a drop in the lake, but I will grab another DLC too to show some support.

Haven't played since custom worlds were removed.
Downloaded the game to see if it returned ... it didn't.
Hard to understand that it is less problematic/buggy to create a XML file where someone could do all kind of weird/random settings compared to being able to change the settings in a interface designed by the makers of the game.
LOL. How obvious is it that, if the developers have to create a frontend that does the XML configurations for you ... that's an extra step. So, not only is it extra work that they don't have time/money for, but it is now also something that has to keep changing whenever something about the XML file concepts changes.
