And the custom world settings were nice as well. Maybe we will see those again. Hopefully.
It's the Kobayashi Maru for devs.
I wouldn't mind science research as trade tasks or unlocks for higher end equipment yet to be introduced for an even better QOL option.

I hope this is brought back in some form though. Not having options is a big step backwards.
What happened was that the development team exposed the developer "custom world" settings button, but this was effectively completely broken. It did allow you to preview some changes, but it was entirely broken in multiplayer. Given the amount of data and change it required, as it was not fully deterministic, there was no realistic way to sync all that changed data nicely over multiplayer.
Instead, we moved making worlds into data. This allows people to make and share worlds, and actually be able to play them in multiplayer. There were also hundreds of bugs with the "custom world" created worlds - that would not directly manifest them to users as being because of the custom world.
We would like to, in the future, add user interface to make the process to make player generated worlds easier so that players don't need to go into the XML themselves. However, the project has always cost more money to develop than we make in revenue - so we try and keep the focus on the absolute key things.
At the moment, the key focus is on a refactor of the terrain system. This is, similar to above, because of massive and extensive performance issues and severe bugs with the old terrain system.
I am curious though about settings like food and water, oxygen use and things of that nature that are not directly involved with the actual world creation (i dont think they are) but simply modify our stats.
We had those before and I am pretty sure they are removed too, as I have not been able to find any.
Same with adding and removing starting equipment and such. Those things can go a long way towards longevity/replay value of the game.
So to sum it up, I understand there are technical limitations to the custom worlds, that require serious effort but is there any hope of seeing some modifier options like I mentioned above?
I know it is only a drop in the lake, but I will grab another DLC too to show some support.
Downloaded the game to see if it returned ... it didn't.
Hard to understand that it is less problematic/buggy to create a XML file where someone could do all kind of weird/random settings compared to being able to change the settings in a interface designed by the makers of the game.
