StartingConditions.XML Modding
Hi There,

I'm currently playing around with the "startingconditions.xml" file to create a lander loadout with different items & quantities. However, I'm unsure how to configure it to automatically override any default landers.

Other mods like x2 & x4 lander mods use the older XML layout which did work before the starter equipment update. I've copied & pasted the default "worldsettings.xml" file and tweaked it into my own little mod and was able to use the custom lander, but at the cost of seeing a lot of dupe-entry errors in the console.

I've looked on the wiki and there's no documentation about modifying the starting conditions under the newer XML layout.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks~!

Hi,
Not sure what you're trying to do, but I've just been tweaking my lander. I did everything in startconditions.xml using Notepad++. I like that for xml editing as it makes the layout clear. Then I just edited the Standard crates because I'm starting on Mars. I've just edited the lander and given myself the hardsuit, back pack and toolbelt with some nuclear batteries.

Having exploded too many times, I just don't trust those gas welders any more..

Cannot override default worlds and conditions by mods yet. Need to create new custom world for new custom condition now.
Previously it has been possible to merge conditions with same id names, now it will throw errors.

Can just edit original files in Streaming Assets for local changes at least.

Aye~ I've basically cloned a couple of worlds and edited the spawn tags. All is working fine. Would prefer if the devs reinstated the override/merging of starting conditions though or atleast provide XML tags to allow overwriting of default conditions.

Was wondering a similar thing, edited world and started a game prior to last update but the update replaced the xml files so all changes are gone. So at the moment you can't override anything?
What happens if you add your own world and another update comes?
Have not found any info if you can extend worldsettings and startingconditions so that it does not get overwritten next patch. Is there a way currently?

Hi There,

I've cracked the puzzle thanks to looking at different recent mods that affected world settings.

This x50 Ore Mod is what provided the clue.

All I needed to do was delete the "SpaceMap" section in the world setting and the load the mod above core. Now I don't need to make separate entries. Also, no "red lines of death" in the console. The downside though is it may conflict with other mods that affect starting conditions.

I was a fan of an old x4 lander mod since well I'll be honest, I don't like mining as it's just too much grinding for ores, etc.

But for what it's worth. I'm happy it's working now!
