He shouldn't have to jump through hoops. The tutorial is broken exactly where he said it is as I got stuck too and gave up. I find it quite astonishing this developer cried out for support recently asking us to "spread the word". Maybe if they spent more time making sure they wren't breaking their own tutorial during development they might actually make more sales.
I'm not surprised people are refunding.. and I predicted exactly this in my own post about this bug. A broken tutorial = refunds and lost respect.
I wonder how long this bug has existed but the existing player base and developers were so engrossed elsewhere they didn't notice? If this were my company I would be firing people. Never take your eye of the new player experience. Surely this should be the golden rule?
It's like having a shop on a high street but forgetting to take the 'out for lunch - back in 5 minutes sign down from the door and everyone just walks on past to the next shop while you sit behind the counter bemused as to why you aren't getting any new customers.
Six Years I've had this game in my library. SIX YEARS!! and I came back to it last week to find the tutorial bugged. You would think six years should be long enough to polish your new player experience.
It will be your loss ultimately when the developer goes bust and declare the game dead. And you know why? Because the tutorial doesn't work and new players are refunding their purchases. And now you joyfully proclaim them to be "out of date". How marvellous.. even more reason to scare off potential new blood for the game.
I find it hilarious you come into this discussion with your retort thinking you are the clever one.
6 Years in development and still white knights throwing the EA argument back at people. Astonishing. You have actual evidence here of players refunding the game because they get stuck in the tutorial and as a fan of the game you don't care and don't see how damaging that could be to the future development of the game. Wow.
Sorry about that too. All six years of it.
Side note, RocketWerkz is doing an absolutlely incredible job lately with this game. Atmospherics update, Comms and Trading updates, this latest rocket update, all incredibly solid additions to the direction; My buddies and I look forward to more.
Nice story but what has any of that got to do with a fundamental fact that new players can't get through the tutorial and it's causing them to refund the game?
And your "buddies" won't have any new features to look forward to when the dev goes bust due to lack of sales.
If we're talking anecdotes, I know plenty of people who got through the tutorial just fine. Also the steam usage stats should speak for themselves, as well. 84% positive, $3.5mm gross. 210h avg playtime.
The api the game uses is very straightforward. Stop raging and either refund it or get to work learning.

I'm not worried about it.
Out of date tutorials have been discussed on the forum 100 times so go read those threads. Yes it's bad. Tutorials are out of date. but the game is still under development. Try to understand reasons behind it.
Try to understand the reasons why people are upset about the game they purchased not working well to onboard them easily.
I thought it was obvious that "out of date" means broken or bugged or anything between.
They all bought Early Access title which says "This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further". Alpha, beta, unfinished, not complete, bugged, etc. Pick your favorite. It's not that hard to understand. Maybe it is.
