This contains a text overview of how to make a rocket
Thanks for that information.
I'd like to point out that when clicking on rockets in the stationpedia home page it lists the parts (starting the list with general and not rocket specific parts) but does not give a description - this is how many players are going to navigate to try and find information. Very few of the parts have descriptions, that's where I went looking after not seeing the text.
I managed to find out through trial and error in the end while in creative (took a few hours) but I am still confused how I can take the information from the computer/downlink to display (i.e the battery %) and if there is a way to write a script that can interface with the rocket control motherboard from an IC that is not on board the rocket, that can interface with say a lever to bring the rocket home early or some such.
I don't rightly know where to start programming the on board IC either.
I'll be totally honest here, I like the new rocket interiors, the new engines and pad, these are great additions to the game. I hate the long time it takes to scan the POI and mine now. I can understand needing to chart to a new location but having so many steps to discover and then survey each location feels excessive - between that and getting dirty ores back this is a serious nerf that is going to make a lot of people question the validity of making rockets at all, especially if automating them is a mystery. Far easier to plop down a bunch of deep miners and be done with it.
I'm not an engineer or programmer, I still like the game for it's challenges, but things like the trader satellite dishes and now these new mechanics are long winded and boring mechanics that will put some people off. (March was the point that the game had a drop from a steady plateau of players to numbers not seen for a year, since before the fire update.) If you make it too complicated or tedious the fun will be lost along with your players. We'll see if this update generates and sustains the numbers seen in previous updates. Rockets needed nerfing, not neutering, IMHO. I haven't explored all the mechanics yet so please forgive me if I'm missing something interesting and exciting. We lost the scavenger module?
Like people loved the rovers that you could breathe in, people loved the rockets. I hope you take on board the feedback from your community while sculpting this amazing game for the future.
