Drinking water on the Moon through helmet
Hello-
I used to be able to drink water on the Moon, even wearing a helmet. That was about a year ago. Did they change this?

need an open helmet for drinking and eating yes, which makes the start quite a mad rush. I tend to use my furnace room as a 'Ghetto pressure room' with an exta active vent that stores the oxite gasses in a canister just for that task if not in use.

Use Easy mode to be able to eat/drink without removing/opening your helmet to eat or drink.

You can change this in the worldsettings.xml file in the save's folder.

At the bottom of the file, you'll find these two lines:
<EatWhileHelmetClosed>false</EatWhileHelmetClosed>
<DrinkWhileHelmetClosed>false</DrinkWhileHelmetClosed>

Change them to:
<EatWhileHelmetClosed>true</EatWhileHelmetClosed>
<DrinkWhileHelmetClosed>true</DrinkWhileHelmetClosed>

Save the changes, reload the save - now you can eat and drink while the helmet is closed.

yeah its hard.. Personaly i play on the hardest difficulty and cannot drink water or eat without the helmet open. ( but you can select a lower difficulty and then you can )
Ofcourse this is realistic you should not open your helmet to drink or eat in space but it would be very nice if we at least could have a small water tank in our space suite so we could drink water since we need to drink allot of water.
( i asume real life astronauts can drink water in their suite )

Just imagine you stand on europa at -143c and have to open your helmet to drink.
Yes you can do it if you press the " i " key and then drink for 2-3 seconds and close the helmet and flush the helmet 2 times afterwards.
Yes you body will show yellow damage but it will go away after some time.

So I opened my helmet, and real quick drank about half a water bottle, and closed my helmet. Thanks for the replies.

According to Some Random Article I Googled, the EMU has:
- A water bag with a straw the astronaut can reach.
- A spot where it can have a snack bar installed that the astronaut can awkwardly eat, though this feature is not often used. It might be more appealing if they were operating in a gravity well where free-floating crumbs were less of a concern!

It's pretty unlikely that either of those can be refilled while the suit is closed up, though making it possible certainly wouldn't be as complicated as some of the hot-swaps we can already do in the Stationeers suit.

(OTOH, you're definitely not going to be eating a baked potato inside your closed suit helmet even with the benefit of gravity.

Yah, I think space suit food is more akin to Gruel or broth more so than baked potatoes or steak & lobster.

Interestingly, the EMU food is very specifically solid - it's a wrapped bar in a slot.

Obviously, drinkable food would also be feasible in the same way water is handled, but doesn't seem to be provided in that suit. Maybe somebody else's though, I'm not finding easy documentation on this.

Yea drinking water & a snack has been an in-suit feature for a very long time. They used to use drinking bags that they then had to clean which was a pita so now they are disposable.

A key thing to realize is they don't spend extended periods only in-suit unless they have work to do, whereas in Stationeers, we're very very dependent on our suits and it's honestly a confusing pita to get started in a hostile environment. It's sometimes a fun puzzle, but also sometimes frustrating when you put everything together and it's "supposed" to work, but it doesn't and you have no idea why.

Thanks for the replies. I was able to build a small pressurized room, just in the nick of time to take a drink of water.

thats not hard, you just have to priorize things properly.

When you start your first priority is to build a small pressurized shelter. There is everything that is needed for that in the lander and you have enough time for that task before you start dehydrating if you just focus on that task. It takes only a couple of minutes. Just don't waste time by fiddling with the power supply or with setting up arc furnace ans printers. Focus on shelter first.

Then focus on power, then water supply, then oxygen supply and then hydroponics.
Its well possible without cheating.

Yea that would be great except the simple airlock setup doesn't work. So I'm forced to make power because I'm running out, which then means I'm forced to make everything else so I can make power; especially as the single solar panel given doesn't charge anything worth a poo except a small battery over 2 days of sun.

By then I just die to no water, which is odd to me as it should take 18 days to die from dehydration, and not 3.

I really have no idea how everyone over the last year keeps claiming that all of this is easy and works, when in my experience, none of it works at all and the guides are sloppy, janky, and incorrect.

The only airlock that "sometimes" works is the advanced one, and that one half the time decides to not work at all.

It's easy AFTER you figure the sequence out, when you're new and learning things it's not at all that easy. If you're still struggling, I can't help but think you've still got a few tricks to learn. Hang in there, once you get things figured out it's the greatest feeling.

I did create a simple coal power supply, to power an active vent. What I created wasn't really an airlock, just a room with a door.

Kind of like what was done in Gemini and Apollo missions in the 1960s and 70s; you get in, close the door and pressurize. Then you can take off your helmet. No real airlock.

So I have a pressurized room and power, on to water...

Thanks again for the help.

If it wasn't already pointed out, you can open the helmet, start drinking, then close the helmet and open it again at the point you're about to finish drinking, then close it again quickly. so it's only open for two split seconds. Eating too but the timing is more variable.
