Does this game really need guns?
I hope fighting will be optional. I don't get why every game has to have this element.

Yes you do. In the future there are going to be things that come to bother you...

I suppose the devs could make a simple checkbox in the options menu, to disable the potential 'bothers'.

I like this game just for the building and survival thats in game at this point.
I hope for an option to disable that part of the game.

Space Station 13 has guns and aliens. This game is largely based off of the stuff in SS13. So I would expect clowns at some point too. HONK!

But, I love to build, but also would enjoy having to defend and repair base and ships and such too. Hopefully devs will give options to disable for those who do not want.

Even space engineers got wolves and janky spiders.

I love survival mode as it is, fighting environment rather than aliens. Creative mode without resources management is no fun.

While it may have been fun in Space engineers, in this game you have the bare basics; pipes, wires, radiators Ect. It takes a whole heap longer to construct, and to have it blown to bits aint my objective. It'd add a new level of difficulty to it, definitely, but it all depends on the extent of the involvement of these new feature and the difficulty. Even Space Engineers has the checkbox option to disable spiders and wolves and drones, but well see what happens.

How would you defend yourself from evil angry space aliens otherwise?

If any of you have played SS13, then you may have a better understanding of how the devs are probably going to approach things.

In SS13, there are roles for people to fil. Some are engineers, some are commanders, and security, some just cook in the kitchen. You do not need to know how to do any of the things you are not inerested in doing.

If you play as a doctor, you do medical stuff, engineer, engineering stuff, securtiy, securtiy stuff, etc. So I would assume by applying that to this game, they are going to add in a lot of stuff that is not just what you personally might enjoy, but stuff for all the various roles that will be possible in the game.

I am sure if you just want to build a base by yourself and not fight anything, then that will be an option. I enjoy medical stuff, and would love to join a server and do medical stuff and nothing else while on that server. That is also most likely why the new security pass system has been implemented, to allow people to access the areas they need to do their jobs, just like how it works in SS13.

So do not freak out, I am sure there will be something for everyone and if the devs pull it off like SS13 does it, then this game will be amazing.

I highly recommend anyone enjoys stationeers to watch a video on space station 13 on youtube. Check out an engineering (or whatever) SS13 video and you will see what I am talking about better.

Having alien parasites secretly infesting the station would be cool.

And that's when Space Engineers lost its charm and went off the rails, so if Stationeers is heading in the same direction I'll skip purchasing it.

Right now, NO THE GAME DOES NOT NEED GUNS. That is the problem with most Indie devs, they start adding things before they are needed when other things need to be finished 1st. So you will have guns but they will be USELESS..(for now).

This is all really good feedback, and I do understand your concerns. I promise this doesn't indicate any major change of direction from us, it's just another piece of the puzzle. We had some assets for guns and needed something to test the destruction of objects. Yes, we probably could've made some boring tool that we just point at things and magic some damage onto them, but where's the fun in that?

Creative mode will always be a thing, and the game should ultimately be enjoyable no matter what combination of challenges you want to include, be it just building/planning, or with survival against the environment and player/non-player antagonists.
