Refrigerating foods using in building temperatures?

Due to needing so much to build a basic refrigeration unit, I need to ask, can you use the air in an enclosed building with the portable air conditioner to keep food refrigerated? or is that not an available mechanic?

I don't believe that is a workable mechanic. Foods get their maximum time-to-spoil in a refrigerator, and no other way.

That's not quite right. The ideal temperature for cooling food seems to be at -140 degrees at 2 kPa CO2.

I think nitrogen has an even lower decay factor (0.6 vs 0.8 with co2). I haven't tried c02 myself, but -140 C seems to be ideal. I've been getting ~114 hours as the best decay time (newly made canned food).

take an ice crusher, crush ice, vent the gas to a small fridge, cut the pipe when you get to about 2kpa. (leave a section or two as a tank for the fridge) should be very cold and stay that way forever. easy early game fridge, no steel needed

Unfortunately it's kinda small to hold all the starting veggies you get, I recall it's only 4 slots no ? But good point about storing your water ice residual gas vents to that fridge, it would be nice if we could do the same with the large one to even improve its efficiency.
