Where to get ferns?

I think I had ferns in a starter crate, which was lost in a storm. How can I get ferns to make medicine?

I think you can also heal yourself with the cryo tube.

I'm not really interested in being a space farmer, so I've got limited knowledge on the subject. Yet I do recall some heated discussions, a while back, at the Organics Printer giving unfair advantages as produce could be printed out. Yet I don't know if this printer still exists in the current build.
