What do you mean? You mean don't make it a slave, set it up like a normal airlock console, and THEN make it a slave? That seems silly, none of the guides mention it, but I'll give it a go. I don't want to use a pressure plate because I don't want it to cycle everytime I walk near the door, or if I'm moving more objects than I can carry by throwing them about when moving in and out of the airlock.
if you do this in any other order it can and frequently did bug the hell out of the airlock motherboard. once the motherboard is bugged thats it, its garbage gotta make a new one to reset. one even made the game crash lol
