Which side of the wall is the "exterior" wall?
The basic iron wall has 2 sides:
- One with the x
- One with the patched panels

You can only place items on the patched panels side and then the input/output of the item sticks through to the other side of the wall.

I initially thought the patched panels texture should be facing outwards, but it didn't make sense once I realized you could only place items on that side.

Thoughts? Which side is the exterior?

Technically speaking both sides of the wall can be interior or exterior unless you are trying to make a room that is sealed to hold an atmosphere.

If you are trying to hold an atmosphere then the side with the patched panels would be the interior.

The walls can however be placed back to back so you could technically have the patched panels inside and outside. This works the same for all wall types.

The only thing you cant do when walls are placed back to back is have wall mounted items in the same location inside and out outside as they would overlap.

Hope that helps a little. :)

Why? What difference does it make? How about if you're trying to keep the room as vacuum, while outside has atmosphere? Still panels facing inside, or other way around. Also why?

On a more serious note, I do think that wall placeable items should be able to place both on front and back side of walls. Makes very little sense that you are able to place items on the side on which you have less physical access to, but not on the side that is fully exposed.

Because if you want to mount something on that wall on the inside you need to have the patched side inward.

You might want to build outer side with frames, and with a double sided wall would not work.
You need a single sided wall to mount on frames.

Wouldn't that also be true for room with no atmosphere? Isn't one just as likely to want to mount stuff on walls in a room with no atmosphere as with a room with atmosphere? Why does the atmosphere make you want to mount stuff on walls?

I don't think there is an exterior, only an interior side because they fit perfectly inside a block, not outside. The other side is a "whatever you want to do with it" side.

A wall piece is placed on one face of a cube space, facing 'inwards' of that cube space. To me, that means the panelled side is the 'interior' side, as it faces 'inwards' of the cube.
