save the game to new save just in case
You can use the tracking beacon with your handheld tablet, put the tracking chip in the tablet and it will give you direction and distance to base, only problem is the beacon uses batteries so if you forget to replace it, it can die on you while your out, or you will be like me and be an idiot and forget to turn it on before you leave :P
Find your save folder. Open the world.xml file with notepad or notepad++ and find your characters name, you will see a <WorldPosition> section with X Y Z cordinates, change those cordinates from something near your base, like the Construction Supplies box.
Is a cheese method but, it works. Next time use the Beacon and Tracker. =)
When playing Solo, and going out further as 2 chunks of landmass, these two thingies can become you best friend, if getting lost is something you think can happen.
TBH, never expierenced it myself, as the game provide enough hints to find you way back in most cases, going out really far, these things is a must have even for the most expierenced tracker on a dessolate place as a virtual moon.
OFC once it happend, and its happend in a 200+ hour save, asking a fellow stationeer to join you game, and act like a beacon for your tracker is a way too.
If even having a tracker with you was too much, thus no means of finding a way back, a second player is able to track you, and guide you back.
In all, the game provides many MANY ways to find a base back... its down how much desperation is at hand
