How do I split ores like iron so I can place like 2 iron in the furnace instead of the full 50?

Have ore in hand press r you'll see split one, half etc. Press f. You can do it directly into the furnace or drop them on the ground.

The other option is to use a stacker which you can make in the autolathe. You can set it to the desired stacksize, throw your big stack in and it will split it into the desired stack sizes. However it is not the best solution if you just need one small stack, if you set it to 2 for example you'll get 25 stacks of 2 and with ore they will quickly roll all over the place.

how can I split ores in my belt and stay there. when I split them they go to my right hand or drop it on the ground. I want them stay in my belt. I try splitting volatiles and they melt immediately because they drop :(

Splitting volatiles in a warm environment is impossible as far as I know. You need to make yourself a cold room for that.

Since you are asking a question like this, I assume you are playing on one of the easier worlds. In which case you can just wait for night, and split your volatiles when the sun is down and ambient temperature is below zero Celsius.

playing on moon. I mean I can split iron inside my belt. why cant I do the same with volatiles
