Autolathe operation

I'm hoping someone can give a good explanation on how to operate the autolathe. I've got mine hooked up and it powers on. I want to make an electronics printer. I've mined the ores needed (Iron, Copper, and gold). I see that it requires certain amounts of each (20g Iron, etc).

I've tried putting both raw ores and ingots in. I put a 50G iron ingot in and it spits out the other side. I then made a 20G ingot (the process for splitting ore is a real pain) and after inserting the 20G ingot, it too just spits out the othe end of the lathe.

I've also tried just adding raw copper or iron and it just sits in the hopper. Seems like as I add ingredients, the interface should give a running tally of what's been inserted, but it always shows 0 for each ingredient.

I'd love some help here!

There's a black/yellow handle on the front; click it and it should raise. Then it should work...When the handle is lowered it'll spit out everything inside so you can use your ingots for other machines/purposes.
