Furnace: build underground?
Hello-
I'm thinking about building an underground furnace, so I can handle ices during the day (on the Moon). Before I go to all this "trouble," I was wondering whether anyone has tried this, and would care to comment...
Thanks,
-Scott

you could use frames (fully welded) and get "shade" from the sun. worked for me. walls somehow didnt work for me. no idea why

i dont actually think walls insulate.. i built a room for my furnace and i vacuumed all the atmo out of it so its isolated but when i fire it up it still transfers heat to my main room.. which is only connected via the chutes.
i was going to put frames in and see if that helps.

Yes that work, but as elleto say you can just make sure you have shade from the sun during daytime and Oxites, Volites and Ice will not melt ;)

It sounds like I can build a room fully-enclosed by frames (fully welded), and that will keep the room cold. And a door on the north or south sides...
Thanks.

Later (I'm on the Moon): I ended up building a simple archway out of welded iron frames to create a shaded area for the furnace. I can handle ices all day long, and it works great.
