On a Empty moom map i had about 60 FPS on start, but that dropped quickly with a base not much bigger as yours to 15 to 25 FPS... Then adding more as 2 lights in a room, lights it tanked a 15 to 20 FPS.
Now i had with more Voxel games issues, it wasnt just stationeers that run crap on my old PC.
SO i desided to do a little much needed upgrade (new MoBo/CPU/Ram) and can now go crazy in stationeers and other Voxelgames :)
I have now trippled the amount of cores with a Ryzen9 3900x, but a lower clockspeed (3.8GzH), and stationeers now runs with 120 frames easy, havent reached the limits yet, and my bases is allready 3 times bigger as ever before with several lightsources in each room.
Same graphics card and monitor, so it was really my CPU that was to weak for these modern Voxel games, and the other games i play also run much better.
BTW i know a R3900x is overkill, R3600 proberbly would been sufficient to run Stationeers with the same result.
Thanks for your reply. Ja I've been thinking of upgrading for sometime now and it appears that it will have to be this year then. In you opinion if I go for a good cpu+accessories but still use the 1080 Graphics, will it be fine? This way I can also overkill like u said. Already on 1TB ssd + 1TB hdd. 800watt PSU. So all I will need then is Motherboard, CPU and 32Gig ram. Maybe a new box if needed.
TBH if you have a good GTX1080Ti, imho on a 1080 screen like i have, its not worth it to go for a 2080..
My monitor is currently the limiting factor for my PC, and i want to upgrade my screen first before buying a new GX card, and from what i read from you, is that you about near identical hardware as i used to have, including the screen, so i just would keep the 1080 for now, just like i did.
In our case(s) its the old 4 core CPU's that just cannot cope with the background calculation in games like these, its not an graphical issue we suffer, although it might help a little bit ofcourse, but the CPU is the biggest limitation for now.
When i bought my wife her new that was almost simulair to my old PC, that was a few years older as hers, but with one difference, i bought her a 6 Core i7 6800 and the game ran so much smoother.
So that was for me the final straw, and started to save up for my current rig, had saved up enough to buy myself a r3900, as Intels where for me way too expensive
Running in Windowed Mode does not make a difference either. Its upgrade time.
I tried Lulan for a view nights but that map is n nightmare. The area doesn't update for several seconds and you fall in. Sometimes it took more than n minute or longer to update the area I walk in or the game crashes. So I gave up and went back to Mars. My PC cpu runs at 68% average but I am not sure if Stationers utilizes Multiple cores. Even the gpu is not at 100%. 🤷♂️ As usual there is more going on than meets the eye so I will except the upgrade recommendation.
Like Aran above said that he upgraded from 4 to 12core CPU and that made all the difference. Of coarse moving from. DDR 3 to 4 is also a step up. The newer motherboards is more streamline in coms I believe.
Now all I need is some cash......but this lockdown is causing havoc in all our lives🤦
Thanks guys👍
I recently bought a Ryzen 3 3800 and with the same graphics adapter I now have 15-80 fps (depends on CPU load and how big my base is).
I guess the old mainboard with the AMD8350 couldn't get the max performance out of my GTX1060 but with it's 8 cores it had no troubles to manage all the rest and gave me a pretty constant fps.
I guess i'll upgrade to a Ryzen 9 3900. That should do the trick.
PS : both machines have 16GB RAM (DDR3 on the older one and DDR4 on the new)
now i upgraded to a r5 3600 with the gtx 1080.
everything at the highest settings.
i get about 200 fps, drops down to around 170 at times..
there is no way you get only 11 fps.. you should be well into the 100s.
turn off vsync and enabled fast sync in the nvidia settings.
Dont think a R9 3900 is even needed, and is by far overkil for most people.. I just bought one for reasons other then stationeers or gaming, but as happy sidenote, Stationeers seem really to like the CPU.
But fully using the CPU in game... not by far, at worst 40% maybe, not even on all cores.
But its more an Old CPU vs a modern CPU is making the biggest change, his old CPU, like my previous oldr 4820k had very limited l3 Cache, old architecture etc etc...
I wont be recommending a R9 to anyone just for gaming, thats prolly not the wisest choice, and the extra money it costs can be used on other parts..
But if you use programs that like several cores more, go for it, its a MONSTER :P
No use of having great content and I say again great content, but are unable to make use of it as the game slows down so much that you can not effectively play.
Come on DEV’s. You can do it.
