Water ice on the Moon?
Hello-
Is there water ice on the Moon? I've looked around quite a bit and I haven't noticed any. Also, maybe there is a way to create water, perhaps by combining oxite and volatiles?

mine ice.

Burn oxite and volatiles in a furnace together, you'll get 80% H2O, 20% N2, so then filter out the nitrogen/water, and you have water :)

"Mine ice," OK, you mean just start digging a tunnel and eventually I'll hit water ice? As for burning oxite and volatiles in a furnace, I thought about doing that, but I wasn't sure it would work.

It's a little confusing to me, because oxite and volatiles are normally the fuel to make steel (which I have done). Are you saying I just skip the "add iron and coal" part, and I'll get water and nitrogen? Do I have to be careful not to add too much oxite or volatiles so they don't get too hot?

OK, I tried using a furnace. I rigged up a canister behind the furnace, to fill up with the gas.

Like you do when you craft steel, I placed 1 oxite and 2 volatiles in the furnace. The temperature went up, and the gasses present included O2 and H2, but no H2O.

I thought maybe I had to add more oxite and volatiles, so I did, but still no H2O. So I guess there is something I'm not understanding here.

Ice is another "ice" like Oxite and Volatiles. Yes it is present on the moon. It's a very very white color. Silicon normally has a slightly bluish/cyan streak to it, while ice is pure white. It can be hard to tell them apart. Just wander around with your mining tool out and it will tell you if it's ice or silicon. Then just pop that into your furnace and melt it down.

Yes, their color is almost the same. I'll keep looking, and stop to look at anything which looks like silicon or ice.

It's boring to just keep looking for ice, so I'll break it up with some other projects. Hopefully I don't run out of food in the meantime. Lately I've been living on baked potatoes and tomato soup!

Yes, what you aren't understanding is that he's messing with you.

Hey, I finally found some ice, thanks for the info on its color; earlier I was assuming that ores of this color were all silicon.

Water by burning has been here in past, but disabled somehow.
Now volatiles is like another natural gas clathrate.
