practical way to make breathable air on Mars
I started a post on making breathable air and getting N2, but now I just really need to figure out how to get past the problem of "im running of of air". I have not mastered atmospherics yet, so please be specific.

So the first problem is getting enough O2. What is the best method on Mars? I either need a canister of >5000 MPa of pure O2, or a canister with enough O2 so I can mix it with N2 using a gas mixer. (which way is easist?)

Should I
- just mine a whole bunch of oxite and melt it in the furnace? Seem like you would need a lot!
- mine a bunch of water and break it down with an electrolyzer?
- pull in a bunch of C02 from the atmosphere and somehow split off the O2?

Im running out quickly, so I need something that works fairly fast.

thanks!

--You've used the backup portable tank of O2?
--for fast, yes, mining oxites is a great way to go
--If you have a bit more time, you can still draw off of the atmosphere using an atmospherics kit, make it into a filter and draw out O2
--OR, if you can make a quick and dirty hydroponics room, plants convert CO2 to O2 very quickly

When you say you haven't mastered atmospherics, I'm not sure how specific to be, so I'll leave it there for the moment. There are also a lot of vids on youtube that are helpful.

I accedentally dumped my portable O2 tank into a room, then at some point dumped the room.
:-( I just did the setup that was in the tutorial. but its empty now.

There is very little (if any) O2 in Martian air. so filtering the air wont work.

I guess I will try the hydoponics route. Seems more sustainable then having to continuously mine oxites.

Akita, add me on steam. I can help you out if you're willing.
I'm in the US, Eastern Timezone.

Thanks Verrtig0. My play time is pretty broken up (damn family always wants my attention, lol) and my connection is terrible since I live out in the country. If you have a server I can try to hop on, see how it goes.

Hi Akita. For making oxygen my best advice is to make a greenhouse, even small, that will suck the oxygen surplus of the room with some logic. For exemple you read the variable oxygen ratio from a gas sensor and when it's superior to a threshold, let's say 20% for instance, you filtrate the atmosphere to withdraw the surplus that you will substitute by CO2 directly sucked from the Martian atmosphere.
Plants turn CO2 to O2 pretty quickly, and since C02 is basically free on mars, it's a very reliable source of oxygen.
Be careful you'll need to manage temperature in the greenhouse, which is not that easy at the beginning.

If you are in urgent need of oxygen because your personal canister is running out, just melt the oxide and collect the oxygen.

If you are looking for long term source of oxygen and lazy to mine oxide, then let the plant make oxygen for you.

I would recommend you to research on how to use Furnace (Not arc furnace) since that thing is way easier to gather gas at the start than the other furnace.
