Steel Smelting

Hi al.
I am quit a noob to the game, but I dont understand this Steel Smelting, well I dont understand the furnace?

I have placed it, on many difrent ways and non of them work.
I put in a item, can be iron, and then it take it, but the door where you put sof in, do not oben again so I can put coal and what have in it?

Some one there can gess what I am doing worng?
I have seen youtube videos on how it work, don the same as there, and the door just dont reopen after I have put the first item in.

is it an arc furnace? they only accept one thing at a time. and wont do steel.

No it is not the arc furnace, it is the one where you can put tow pipes on the back, run on no power, where you need to put Oxite and Volatiles

Okay. So before you try to melt any metal in the furnace, you need fuel for it. Early game, you need to go mine fuel ices. (Oxcite and Volatiles) Take those to the furnace. You can normally use 2v and 1o to get yourself started, but if you're going to do a lot of ore, you're going to need more fuel ice on hand.
Now, you have to load the fuel ices before you try putting ore in there. So take your 2 volatiles, put them in the door, then hit the red button a couple of times and you'll see the door open. Put in the Oxcite, and hit the button again. You'll see the furnace light up real nice.
If you're going to make steel, you need iron and coal in a 3:1 ration (Iron:Coal). So, 150 iron and 50 coal will net you 200 steel.
So you put the ore in and the door will open back up when it's done processing the item you put in there. If you hold your cursor over the window on the front, it will give you some nice info. Same with the gauge on the right. (You'll need the gauge info later in the game to make the more exotic metals).
Once you have all the ore and coal in the furnace, and you've got your cursor over the window, you should see something along the lines of "Will produce XXXg of Steel. At that point, pull the lever on the left of the furnace and an ingot will plop out the bottom.
