just make a temporary frame, build power controller, and deconstruct frame.
since u can do this i dont know why you cant just build on walls.
Also when building a shaped steel frame it doesn't act as a frame. For example a solar panel has to be build on a frame (according to the tool tip) but what the tool tip doesn't say is that it has to be a the normal frame (cube), so if you want to build a solar panel on a wedged steel frame you need to build a normal frame first, put the solar panel on it, deconstruct the frame and replace it with the shaped frame you actually wanted to build it on.
Also somewhere in the last 8-10 months (haven't played for a few months) some items that require a frame will now break if you deconstruct the frame.
Not only do we have to build 6 foot thick walls to put a display but you also need a 6 foot thick ceiling to hand a stupid light fixture.
I can understand that the developers focus on certain functionalities but where is the fun in building a functional base that looks like crap.
I am pretty sure that being able to put a display, light fixture, switch, ... etc on a standard wall/ceiling/floor is something that most people are waiting for and would prefer to see compared to a useless rover.
just have the back of a wall act as one side of a frame (same for ceiling and floors). So if you wanna put something on a wall you need to build the wall of the adjacent room build(the one that will be back to back to the one your gonna build). Same for ceiling and floor of the the next level.
Only exceptions would be heavy machinery (stationary battery, generators, ... etc)
Why do I have the feeling that this would only require changing one attribute on those items.
Or give us a way to mod it (we probably only need to know the name and possible values).
Such a mod would probably become the most popular mod in a few minutes!
It frustrates me that the developers still impose this construction restriction on players, when they don't design their prefabs within the same restriction.
Not sure if its possible but maybe the back of a wall could be made to be a mountable surface. Still unable to place things on both sides of the wall but saves the 3 seconds of placing and removing frames.
The best thing about Stationeers is that we can place things just about anywhere unlike a lot of games where an item takes an entire block regardless of the side of the device.
The only reason I can think of is that it's easier to have a "reference plane" to build on and it would be a mess trying to position something like a light fixture in free space. But I don't get why a wall cannot deliver that reference to build on (they already do it for pipes and cables).
Unless you have to deconstruct an autolathe or something similar before placing that temporary frame.
Most who have played for a while know all this.
Problem is when you start to get complex builds going it is not always that easy to dismantle a hole system just to get a frame inside it so you can put up some simple thing as a light fixture, sensor etc.
It is counter intuitive and should need to be addressed ASAP. Period.
It is almost more irritating than setting up two-axis solar system with all the bugs every part of the Logic/ IC Chip system has ;P
In beta.
PS : indeed working in beta it's just a bit different as expected. We can place things on the front side of a wall (floor grating also works), was expecting to be able to build on the back of a wall but that's ok.
We can now put solar panels on thin roofs ... etc
Either way it certainly is a huge improvement as it is now.
