Wires break or burnout when you're pumping too much power through them. The small red wires can handle 5000 watts. The big ones handle much more. If you try to hook up wires with pieces of equipment that are already turned on, it creates an overload, especially if there's too much on the line. If you're coming off of a station battery, you'll want to run either a power controller or a small transformer. I prefer using a Xfmr to a controller to everything, but that's me.

[Station battery]--->[small xfmr]--->[power cont.]---> base

when setting up the air lock, you will need the data disk. insert it into the console, then enjoy learning how that all works.
for a proper config, you'll need the 2 airlock doors, active vent, and a gas sensor. you can add lights to it if you want.

Do yourself a favor when you're setting up the airlock for the first time: rename the doors 'outer' and 'inner' or something similar with the renaming tool. During setup you need to select the outer door first, and then the inner, so unless you have them renamed it can be a pain to figure out which is which.

And if you get it wrong during setup, your airlock will start doing the opposite of what you want it to do. I spent far too long troubleshooting that problem on my first attempt at a base :)
