Hydroponics
I'm working on a greenhouse and having some issues. Hopefully someone can help me out...

I've built a small greenhouse with composite windows and an airlock. Inside is pressurized to 56kpa with oxygen(90 O2 / 10 N2). I have 100% pure H2O being pumped in as well. I haven't done anything to adjust the temp in there...currently at 5.6C and rising slowly.

I've tried planting two different ferns, one at a time. Immediately, the tooltip says that the fern looks wilted and I'm given a countdown timer. For the first one, there was only 25 mols of water in the pipes, so I adjusted it. The second fern was the same way, immediately wilted. For this one, I had 138 mols of water in the pipes.

Anyone have any tips? Is my atmos all wrong? Still not enough water? Is it just too cold?

They need co2... And between 20 and 50C I believe.

Plants need CO2 in the atmostphere and H20 piped through the trays as well as moderate temperature.

Hey everybody, the fact that plants breathe CO2 and exhale O2 is key to life on Earth. It should be taken advantage of in-game for sure!

(There have been multiple posts from players who don't seem to understand this.)

How many plants does it take to get a decent oxygen production ? 25 ? 50? more ?

One soy bean produces enough O2 to breath and a little bit more (1mol every 2 minutes or so)

You can have co2 only atmosphere above 6kpa in a greenhouse, keep temp around 30.

plants do not bretahe o2 , but they use co2 during photosyntesis , plants also do breathe o2(especialy during night) themselfs.

I think the biggest difficulty is temperature management because dring the day the air gets notably heated and if you are not carefull you might kill all your plants at once.

I wonder if they added something like CO2-heats-more-than-others (Greenhouse effect :) ). Might
than even be a consideration when planning what air mix you want to use. Just CO2 + O2 Filter is simple, but heat much more and so on. Balancing the mix because the plants change it all the time is tricky.

I for one try to make an atmosphere in there where I can go into without needing a helmet. Currently 55-60 kPa with 70/25/5 N2/O2/CO2 ... I'm still fighting with temp issues so I can't tell if the plants really like it. We'll see when I get the temperature finally stabilized. I started with -40°C Tank Gas Temp, than I got to 167°C a while later when I noticed how much I needed a cooling solution before doing the real thing.

So these plants don't require light? Isn't that part of the photo-sythesis formula? Just curious since I haven't gotten around to hydroponics yet. Also, do they consume water? If so how rapidly? Seems like water might be the bottleneck in this system. Much easier to produce oxygen by mining common oxite than it is to get from plants if you need to constantly mine rare water ice. I'm sure there's balancing required here so not complaining.

good question
good game
hard to get any info

Plants definitely require light to advance growth stages.
I have not closely monitored water use per plant as yet but ice/water could prove to be the bottleneck for large hydroponic builds.

To increase water temps use pipe radiators in the greenhouse. They'll warm up the water by using the heat of the room.

Plants NEED Carbon to grow. They take it out of the Co2 and release the by-product that is the o2. Plants take nutrients via the roots but gets the building material from the Co2 Carbon.
