It seems that there is an imbalance around when you start the game out, which leads you to start the game at different times.
I recommend using the solid fuel generator early on to charge your batteries.
can you reiterate on the imbalance? are you saying my day IS shorter because of when i started my game?
If you start a game, and then keep quitting and remaking new games, you'll soon realize that the game is starting you off at the ingame time of when you last quit.
So, what I did was to simply start up a game, wait until it was dawn, and then exit and make a new game. Otherwise, you can guesstimate (or clock it with a watch) and start yourself off just before dawn to get yourself some time to set up a solar panel.
Do you mean the sun orbit slider? If so I think that is locked while you're in a game.
