so... those collectibles...
I just finished the first world getting everything and figured, I would eventually figure out, what they are good for...

so far, no idea...

I didn't need X orbs to progress... there are no upgrades/cheats/characters to be bought with the coins...

heck, it's not even an art gallery or Sound Test... which I kind of like, but are still the lowest tier of in-game rewards... just behind alternate skins.

or is it just NG+ / Postgame stuff?

No that's not true.

If you collect 100% of all tokens and wisps throughout the game, you'll be given a bonus menu with the ability to switch both Noodle and Doodle to 8-bit mode.

It's not a substantial prize, but what'd you expect?

As someone who loves collectibles, something more rewarding. I too like concept art and sound tests but generally prefer game-modifying prizes for my effort, or some kind of interesting unlockable that is more than aesthetics for 100%.

My favorite game of all time gives you one extra level for 100%ing the game that is literally the most satisfying finale for the entire game. It isn't much, it doesn't change how the rest of the game plays, but it does feel like a reward.

What would be the point to use an aesthetic change after 100% when no reason exists to continue playing?

These are some of the important questions for any dev looking to make a collect-a-thon game.
