They do not actually DO anything. Only the numbers matter if you are not there defending your base.
You can use the A.I. to help you defending the base? How?
By NOT being logged in when the defense is.
The A.I. DOES NOT take part in the battle if you are there.
If you actively take part in the fight they supposedly reduce the strength of the incoming waves making the fight easier (they do not actively take part in the combat).
If you are not actively defending the base then the game throws your base defense scores up against the incoming wave's attack score and with WAY to much RNG calculates the damage your base takes and whether you win the wave or not.
To have your survivors defend your base you'll need to assign crew members to the Base Defense squad. I find it quite easy to reach C rank with Reeves and like three or four trash crew members. C rank more than triples the defensive capabilities of your placed traps, fences, and other defense structures and is more than enough to deal with whatever will attack you from Base Dig Plank 5 or lower.
Not the IA, the turrets he put in his base (not IA turrets).
But I would rather try to defend the last digs yourself, I'll face the 3rd wave later and I am not really looking forward to it, as wave 2 was already annoying with mortars and elementals on every side at the same time + jumperspam at the end...
Well the specific auto turret doesn't really matter. Auto, Gatling, Grenade all payout the same Defensive points (1800 at Rank C). The only turret that doesn't pay out the same is the Air Cannon. I'm still trying to figure out if I can switch out Automatic Turrets with Machine Guns since they payout the same amount of points in terms of automatic base defense
Don't think the total matters but the scores per side, though it is still a stupid amount but you could always dump all your people in to base defense right before the attack and get up to rank B base defense.
Yeah defending yourself is safer if you know you're able to do the defense. Those Mortars can be annoying but at least they're easily done in with explosive sniper ammo to the legs. But those Trackers man are an absolute pain in the ass. Best way to deal with them I find is a few gatling turrets around the digger to intercept them mid jump
I placed 2 reinforced towers close to the center of my base so I can often intercept all 4 mortars with with 1 mag from the Bambetov.
