Could you drop by the Discord and let us take a look in your output_log.txt file? I have an idea of what it might be and hopefully we can get you going fairly quickly.
Did it let you continue with no further issues?
It's hard to say without seeing the Output_log.txt file and the error message. It's not necessarily anything that you have done wrong as sometimes files fail to copy for no apparent reason. If you could either post the details here or drop by our Discord we'll try our best to help.
Yes that is the plan at the moment. Most of the guys working on this quite like the RPG element having played a lot of Silent Hunter.
Yes absolutely, that's exactly how the current ones are made. Just remember that playable surface ships are a bit weird as they are really submarines as far as the game is concerned.

It definitely hasn't! 0.2b had a couple of hotfixes but there has never been an official 0.2c release. There was briefly a 0.2c WIP but with the amount of code rework that was renamed to 0.3a
Same prob here. Can't find some models in the data base. Clean install for the game and for the new Mod.
