no it wont, 0 knot let me detect them quicker
1. If you move your ship by using LMB (Left Mouse Click) then the ship will travel in the map screen with approx 20 knots. Which when we encounter with enemy, we're definitely get detected even reduce speed to 5 or 0 knots won't help. So I need to counter this by moving the sub on the map with right click only, especially when approaching the enemy.
2. Sometimes, a helicopter spawn above your head or in the vicinity closer to your sub and drop the sonar to check on you, if in case he gets your read, he'll definitely relay the information back to the fleet & engage you.
3. Once the surface warships start to ping you, it's impossible to hide your sub entirely 100% because he will see the approximate location of where you are, no matter what you do (apply to real life too, i guess).
So your option is to go deep under the thermal layer to hide from the active sonar that locates you. This way the enemy active sonar can't locate you 100% correctly, it's rendering both passive and active sonar echo ineffective to get a good read. However, as you are underneath the thermal layer, the sound the enemy make above said layer won't be easy to get a read on your sub too. You're supposed to use this to perform maneuvers/escape, or rise up shortly above the layer and launch the torpedo, then dive back below.
Exploit is the only way to play this game
IMO this is not totally exploited because you didn't produce the noise of your own submarine and just listening to the environment. It's like parking a car at night somewhere in Arizona highway, you can hear everything quite easy from all directions.
Silent Running means the crew stops performing noisy things i.e. reload torpedo, running around cranking the engine etc. so that the passive sonar of enemy ship won't hear your voice. Even crew speaking noise in the sub irl can get you detected by the enemy.
I recommend play the way you like, learn from mistake (and sometimes frustration). But I want to recommend the mod called "Dot Mod", this rebalance stuff a lot and plus the surface warship as playable. So you can now hunt the enemy sub instead.
Silent running at 5 knots so you can keep the towed array moving (which is much better at detecting enemy noise because it is more sensitive than passive sonar, farther away from the sub, and the passive sonar on the sub can be used above the layer while the towed array can be simultaneously used below the layer) is like just putting the car in gear and letting it coast at idle speed. You don't lose any more sound detection than you do just sitting idling and your car radio or cell phone moves in and out of dead spots to gather more information. Far superior to just sitting still.
