Enemy torpedoes do not home in on own ships/submarines
They used to make mistakes sometimes that their own torpedoes home in on one of their own or themself but I witnessed several enemy torpedoes who are searching to completely ignore their own subs or ships even when they're right there in range.

Has this changed in 1.09e?

I've been away from this game since 1.04

Enemy torpedoes only seek submerged targets as of 1.09e, so surface launched torpedoes will not come back and kill the frigates, destroyers, etc that launched them.

Well damn

I had the same experience as you today. I concluded it is either due to exactly what you say, OR, the ai managed to keep control of their wires while maneuvering sharply to avoid my close range shots.

Either way, resulted in me getting struck by 3 torpedos after watching, in an incredulous manner, 2 torps ignore the enemy sub and go almost through him.

It's somewhere in the 1.09 patch notes, I think it predates the E version. Technically we should be able to set upper and lower ceilings for our own weapons, at least on the Mk 48, but I'm not sure many people would like to have another 2 or 3 steps added to launching a weapon.

This misses the topic just as much as your torpedoes missed the enemy sub.
The author of this topic has marked a post as the answer to their question.

Im really not sure what you mean. I shot, they shot - very close range almost head on (3KYT). My own torpedo locked on to me eventually, and their torps ignored them even as I put the enemy submarine in between my submarine and their torpedoes.

Maybe i didnt make myself clear

And for the record, I tried surfacing close to a merchant (on the opposite side in fact) and the enemy torpedo still chose me.

Then there is still something fishy going on.

Also, thanks for all the answers!

Just played a mission where the wreck of a tango sitting at 260ft depth attracted a torpedo from a surface vessel... possibly Silex?... that had been trailing me for some time. It seems as though it's working fine, but I will go to my '68 campaign and see if I can drag their own torpedos back to them while they're still alive and kicking (and screaming).

I sort of wonder if it was just easier to program the torpedoes to “not hit own teams ships” then to program them to not fire in the direction of their own ships within realistic parameters. Cause there is a bit of an issue if the enemy torpedo won’t hit their own surface ships but will hit your surfaced ship (unless they’re wire-guided which I don’t think they are).
