Give them both a try for sure, but keep in mind EPIC steals EVERYTHING from DOT mod, and then tries to add their own stuff.
Also, in EpIc, the Russian subs are (unrealisticly) boosted up to being super strong, and it's not realistic at all. If that type of thing matters, go DOT.
basically DOT is = realism expanded and epic is = arcade expanded
Depends what you want. But I also dislike the practices of the Epic modders and hate their unrealistic buffing up of soviet subs that throws off the realism balance the game has.
Russia's military is trash, as we've seen.
Playable Subs was where things started.
Epic Mod took stuff from Playable Subs (which soured CaptainX3)
DotMod staff were a part of Epic Mod, further expanding the mod's capabilities.
DotMod formed as a fork from Epic Mod as Dot and original content/code creators with he decided they should focus on a more realistic mod with their own models, behaviour code and the like.
Epic & Fun (Epic Mod's 'creator'/lead) decided he'd start stealing DotMod code and models.
DotMod explicitly denied him permission to do so, but he continues to do so to this day.
So his mod's been banned from discussion at SUBSIM, it's been banned from discussion at the CWCD, it's been banned from consideration of SUBSIM's Mod of the Year/Best of SUBSIM. And it will remain this way until he finally removes DotMod's content.
So go with DotMod by default.
Dotmod routinely updates with game-enriching features and the team working on it is talented and dedicated to improving a game they truly love. Don't even bother with Epic, try out Dotmod once you have a decent handle on the game!
So, why not totally remove their mods from Subsim? I wholeheartedly agree with making people accountable. However, just reviewing the Subsim site, shows all of the Epic mods still on the download site.
Interestingly enough, I am surprised the DOT mod install is not located on the download section of Subsim, so sort of a mixed message. I did note the locked Epic mod thread though, so kudos.
So to answer your question there, the Epic Mod 'download' in there was placed before all of this DotMod stuff came to surface. It directs to the EpicMod thread that's closed when you try to 'download it' and the link has been removed from that thread. Though I am the CW forum mod, I do not control the Downloads section for it.
Making up lies while Epic openly states he's stealing DotMod's materials? Yeah, okay.
I just posted on Subsim, but cannot find anything on how to operate the surface weapons. In particular, using an Arleigh Burke in the first scenario, Shakedown Cruise I think, and I tried to shoot down the MH60 and P3. I figured out how to load and fire the correct weapon, but not how to lock on to it.
Also, how do I launch Seahawk helo?
We have no plans to run helos or anything like that - we feel that by the time we get it done in a manner that makes sense and works to our standard, the community will get a better experience running Sea Power when it drops.
hope that helps,

Since I have your attention, how do you shoot down the aircraft with the SM6? I can get it to launch, see the settings for narrow search versus wide search, but it always flies over the lower flying helos and aircraft.
By the way, beautiful modelling.
