Impossible to remain hidden
No matter what I try the enemy always finds me. I am either NOT MOVING or I am going at ULTRA QUIET and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ find me every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time. Active pings, helicopters etc etc. Then I have like 7 torpedos on my ass and ultimately its gonna be a contest of luck. How the ♥♥♥♥ can you enjoy a sub game if stealth is so ♥♥♥♥ ???

I would recommend you go to periscope depth first, launch some torps very early. Go identify them with your periscope and as soon as they show signs they detected you, launch some rockets at the merchant ships, then don't hang around, start a MOSS and evade into the depth if possible. (Dont forget to rig for diving xD )
Never go faster than 5 knots in ultra silent, sometimes ships have submarines as escorts, usually you can ignore them for a mission.

For *Subs*: When you go ultra silent and don't move, they never detected me, I had a few encounters where they almost rammed me by accident.
Pro tip: Attach them from behind (called "in their baffles"), sometimes they don't even notice that they got attacked by torps until it's too late.

The game is not unrealistic since the Soviet Navy knew that American Sonar technology was better so as soon as they detected something, they assumed that they are detected themself already so they went into full evasion and counter-measure.

I have around 300h in this game, so what I would do to improve is to
1. Learn important hotkeys: [Shift] + [D] for noisemaker and [Shift] + [S] for Ultra-Silent
2. Steer your ship and your torps manually with [W] [A] [S] [D]
3. Play around with layers, you can see them in the CONDITIONS (on the right side), it's easier to get undetected by breaking into another layer.

If you do your detection and target identification early on, you can attack first and gain the initiative, I often score a kill or two before they even notice something is wrong.
Try to start at 25 KYD distance, go instantly ultra silent and work on your target identification in the right box. Position yourself sideways or with your front to the enemy, behind your ship you can't hear anything. And care for the layers, if you are in the same layer as the enemy, you hear them much better! (They do hear you better too).

Unless under direct fire, don't cavitate!

Are you playing the campaign? If you zoom around the map at full speed when entering a battle, the enemy will have most likely detected you already.

Also on the signature tab you can see if a contact is able to detect you, if passive/active readings are over 10 they have spotted you.

yes I am playing the campaign when I am nearing a hostile I am pressing right click to go slow. when contacts are far away I move fast with left click. Also I am aware of the signature values. The thing is though that they always spot me and the game never spawns me on their baffles its always head on

i get my solution fire active on wire , and straight away go silent and head away or go deep , you can also fire off a moss in the other direction, to fool the copters, or just lie down deep all silent and wait wait wait they will eventually move on if they dont detect any thing. you need to get away as soon and silent as you can, i usually dont even go to 2 on the speed,
but i agree the speed at which the copters and planes detect you sometimes is unreal.

In the campaign the enemy always starts moving towards your position. If you sit still, even at ultra quiet you will likely be detected. You not moving is the problem, put the sub on a perpendicular course to the expected target course, run bellow the layer 10 knots, 15 or faster if you can get away with it, get some distance (conditions, your subs sonar and opponent dependant) from your starting position

If detected you can't give anything else away, go loud fast, get some distance before trying to go quiet again. Remember they will search from your last known position, so don't get some distance then sit at 5kts on the same course.

If you attack they will search the bearing the attack came in on, you'll need to break the line and go at least 10kts to put your sub away from the area being searched. Likewise the ai will project your course and search along it if they lose contact, this will include MPA and helos dropping sonar buoys ahead of your sub. So you have to throw in a major course change so they search along the wrong course.

Tip from my silent hunter days for you, 1 knot = 100 yards in 3 minutes, 2 knots would be 200 yards and so on. So at 5kts you take 6 minutes to go 1 kiloyard. Helicopters go fast and can cover 20ky in the time you manage 1ky. You'll need more than 1ky to escape dipping sonar or a buoy.

What is the difference between chosing " all hands to battlestations " and close to 25 kiloyards?
First one means, engage at the current range. The second one means, attempt to close to 25 kyds before engaging - sometimes that succeeds, sometimes it doesn't.

I just shoot first, ask questions later. God knows how many merchants and whales I have killed to become a war hero.
