Cold Waters
Hopes and prayers for the crew of ARA San Juan (S-42)
Just heard from collegues in the Navy that the TR 1700 type Argentinian diesel eletric submarine San Juan (S-42), is missing with all hands.

Let us pray for the safety of the crew, and for a swift and successful search and rescue operation.

Update: Possible hull banging by the crew

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5100625/Missing-Argentina-sub-reported-breakdown-final-call.html
It was proven to be biological and not mechanical banging. Not them.

Old news! My update is from people following the rescue operation on ISMERLO. It is just one hour old.

Flares sighted, and sub found by ASW aircraft. Rescue ship approx 15 hours from site...

Update:

I have it from good sources following the search & rescue operation, that the San Juan has been found, and there are survivors on board!

Submarine launched flares has been sighted!

-Dolphin 38

So all 44 have been found nice

It has not been confirmed how many survivors there are, and I must stress that the crew has not been rescued yet.

From what I can gather, the submarine has been found, and submarine launced flares have been sighted, thus there is an indication that there are survivors.

Hopefully all crew members are safe, but we will not know for certain until contact with the crew has been established...

I know... Frustrating.

I have my info from submarine experts montering the rescue efforts on the ISMERLO website.

But the Information has yet to be confirmed in the media I have been following...

The media has cried wolf a few times, so I guess they might want to be 100 % sure before reporting anything.

Neither CNN nor The Guardian, which I have followed closely has reported anything yet...

Thanks for the news Dolphin 38!!! Hope ISMERLO is right. Here we have rumors about "something found" but they don't give any details. Keep my hopes high. Thanks a lot for your news.
Praying your right, Dolphin38... still nothig on major US, UK or AUS news.

De nada!

I just pray the Information is accurate. I would hate to be the bearer of false hope.

As a submariner it pains me knowing that the crew is out there, trapped on the ocean floor.

We have had good ecperiences with the ISMERLO cooperation in the past, so I like to think the Information there is accurate, but we have to wait for the official news to be sure...

I will update you when I know more.

Left work now, so I will not have any updates until tomorrow morning. It's afternoon here now...

No credible news updates in our news outlets either...

Keeping the faith!

I hope the information you have is accurate rokvam... we're getting down to the wire here. None of the usual media outlets have said anything... the most recent update that I saw was a heat source that turned out to be a false alarm.

Yeah, hoping the same!
Time is of the essence for sure.

The last update I got from my submariner collegues, before I left work, was that the rescue ship was steaming towards an area where they had detected some thing on the ocean floor, but it was not in the same area as the flares had been observed... They were a bit baffeled by that.

It could mean that the flare observation has been deemed less credible than first reported.

Still hoping...

Well, i'd say flares are a great sign, period. Unless there is some other boat in trouble in the search area which is probably a bit unlikely at this point. The rescue boats wouldn't fire off flares would they? Surely using the radio would be more effective to let everyone know that they'd found something.

If what was detected was a "heat source" on the ocean floor, then some media outlets are saying that is a false alarm. Regardless of the heat source being a false alarm... if there's flares in the air... that must mean the SAR teams are very close...

I am a bit confused to be honest...
Conflicting Information is coming in from different sources now.

Right now I won't speculate any more. It's down to hoping my collegues Information was correct, and the contact they have detected is the real thing...

We will just have to bite our finger nails and wait it out...

Ok this is really bugging me. According to this site:
http://www.news.com.au/technology/clues-dismissed-as-investigators-admit-they-have-no-trace-of-submarine/news-story/8bd685829179f46519cb6310a9730941

The sounds, flares, and heat source, have all been dismissed. I can understand the sonar contacts being false alarms. I can understand the heat signature being a false alarm. But the flares? Who else is out there firing off emergency flares? Is it another boat in distress? The fact that they are not elaborating on this is very frustrating.
