Details usually include where they are going, such as crossing the Denmark Straits.
What is really missing is a good tutorial for each mission type so that you know where to go what to do.
I just watched a Youtube video of a guy trying the TLAM mission.
He sneaked in the blue circle, and from there fired 12 TLAMs at the red markings on the map where the enemy harbors are.
Then wondered why he failed...
I did exactly the same when i first tried that mission.
How am i supposed to know that i can be anywhere on the map, must fire the TLAMs AT the blue circle, and from there they auto-redirect to the red target areas ?!?
While in the seal insertion type mission i have to sneak IN the blue cicle and deploy the seals from the stores page, IF i previosly loaded them in port, which i of corse did not do, as i assumed they board automatically.
But this kind of information/detail i only need once from a tutorial, video or manual.
Once i know how a mission type works in detail, in the briefing i only need WHERE, WHEN and WHAT (type of mission/target), and some agenda/lore/story.
Edit:
The "Giuk" one also had me wondering and searching the map 2min. without result. But then i was a little bit proud of myself when i figured it out and finished the mission, so i say this kind of small extra difficulty is ok sometimes.
Agreed
Yup. Yup. Yup.
At the moment the game and its briefings are written assuming the player is a sub nerd and knows the specifics of the historical period, including NATO terminology. That's a poor assumption. In general the briefings need to be made a lot clearer, and take a lot less 'for granted'.
Hell yeah... This game is very rough around the edges tbh... still fun to play though... especially when you add in the russian subs mods. I wonder if someone will add in playable ships too. I loved that about DW. It's been sooooooooo long since I played that I just wonder if I am thinking of it with rose tinted memory cells... but it seemed more in-depth than Cold Waters.
