I'm not saying you are doing this but guys going in like Rambo mixing it up with escorts and getting themselves damaged is another problem. Then they come on the forums and want a break from missions.
Better mission planning and execution definitely needs to be a topic of discussion before any game design changes are made IMO. There are no timeouts in war. It keeps going with or without you.
Two things to keep in mind:
1) You don't need to sink every ship. You only need to sink the primary target(s). For example, a mission stop an amphibious landing means that you only need to sink the amphibious ships.
2) Unless you are playing the 68 campaign with non-homing torpedoes, you don't need to use more than 1 torp per ship. With the Mk 48, 1 torp is more than enough to sink any ship 95% of the time. Get a good solution and fire off 1 torp in the right direction. If it locks on to the enemy ship, it will sink it like 95% of the time. Remember, this is not a WW2 sub sim where you have to fire off 3-4 torps in a wide spread to guarantee a hit on a ship.
If you take your time to get a good solution, you can usually accomplish every mission with only 1-3 torpedoes. That leaves you plenty of weapons to do 3 or more missions before you resupplying. If you find yourself needing to resupply after every mission, you are using too many weapons to accomplish your goal.
if you want to kill everything in a convoy, you generally can:
1.) kill things with SS-N-14, SS-N-16 and Helix/Hormone first, and kill them with torps... this means they are less likely to pinpoint you and the convoy's stand-off weaponry is gone.
2.) kill vessels with anti-air defenses with two (or multiples of) Harpoons - one skimmer, one pop-up... it forces them to divide their attention and increases chances of a hit.
3.) one Harpoon or TSAM against things with no SAM/CIWS, they are dead anyway.
This saves torps for subs and warships that can fire ASW rockets at you, while allowing you to maximize the effect of the weapons you carry.
My problem was i hadnt had a chance to restock following a 10x cruise missile loadout for a mission - 3 missions earlier...
My point is if you are down to two warheads you really should be sent to restock rather than sent on another mission - surely?
Depends - if you are 'the only asset available' (which, in this game, you are) then COMSUBLANT is gonna sigh and say "send 'em in, and print the letters to their moms."
Lol i guess so...
