The Navy had them. They carried them. Thank God they never used them.
That was an available option in Red Storm Rising, too.
Although I think it was limited to the later campaign start date(s). 1992 and maybe for 1988. Perhaps the devs will eventually add it to a new, later, hypothetical campaign date.
But ween we get workshop i know sooner or later some one will mod torpedoes and missles to have a greater blast radius,
And the RPK-2 Vyuga is more or less a Russian copy of the UUM-44 SUBROC.
The hypothetical SeaLance, however...
Historically, the Sea Lance should have been available in the 1990's, as the development contract was awarded in 1986 and the program was terminated in 1990 while testing. I'd say that a 1995-96 timeframe would be appropriate for it to appear during the game.
If we have tac nukes then the Soviets will get them too....
There's a whole other related discussion there that's bubbling around in my mind but I will post another topic on it.
Come on .. this a simulator of a cold war turning into a shooting war .. SUBROCs existed .. I was there :) We didn't use any, mainly because we were not in an all out shooting war with the USSR .. had we been, we would have used them.
I know that the Russians did carry portable SAMs on some of their boats so that they could surface and send a man up. I don't know how successful that tactic was.
I don't think it's a question of violence. There's lots of violence in Cold Waters. The problem is that (a) you can only use nuclear weapons in a scenario where you receive authorization and (b) the war then ceases to be a conventional war and becomes a limited or full nuclear war.
How fun would that be? Destructive, sure, but fun? What happens when the Soviet nukes are raining down on your sub? Sounds like frustrating BS to me. And had the Cold War become hot, it is entirely possible that it would have been limited to a conventional conflict because the use of a nuclear weapon would escalate things quickly into a scenario where there can be no winner.
Back in the late 80s, there was a game called Balance of Power. It could end in a nuclear war between the superpowers, which was considered a game loss condition. There was no graphical depiction of a mushroom cloud; the game instead would display a simple text message that you've lost and won't be rewarded with an animation for causing a global thermonuclear war.

how did it turn out?
I never used them against subs at the moment. and ships I wont hit with that thing. they would be used in a retaliatory and only on command.
How effective is the subroc?(epid mod , dotmod)
