Shang-class firing undying torpedos. (Yu-6) -is this a bug?-
I have been evading a single extremely intelligent, extremely fast torpedo in my Akula II for the past 30 minutes IRL. I have no idea if this is how it is in real life; if it is, then I don't know how a Seawolf or any other hunter-killer can outdo this monster of a boat if China ever decides to claim the entire ocean as theirs.

I am nearly out of decoys, and although my knuckles are clean I know for a fact that when it comes right down to it my ducking and diving won't be good enough for another 30 minutes, probably because my fingers will cramp up or the heat death of the universe, whichever comes first.

The Shang has been dead for about 26 minutes now, by the way. The torpedo is apparently well aware of my living, and it will NOT self detonate. I honestly think it is a nuclear powered-armed torpedo, and I have become WAY more afraid of it than should be rational. I don't know if nuclear torpedos are in the game, but if they are, then this is it.

So, the question is: is this a bug, or has China mastered the art of undersea domination?

Edit: Fifty minutes. It took 50 IRL minutes (1 hour w/ compression in game) for this torp to run out of fuel.

Nuke Torps are in the game, they are just coded 'unavailable'....you need to check the torp's oem values with those provided in the modded file you are using. Search your OEM Weapons file for the name of the torp in question...then search the modded Weapons for that name and compare performance figures.

If your distance scale is set at 1:1, you get to enjoy the full life of the torp as defined in its control file. At 1:2 its run time (IRL Time) is cut in half.

Some torps are beasts and you usually encounter these in the various mods. The Spearfish torp is one such nuisance so if I encounter a UK boat especially a Trafalgar, they are the first to die. At 1:1 I have had numerous 30 minute engagements with fast, well equipped fish. Against these, using only the tactical map to navigate, I often don’t survive. If I can see the torp in 3D I have a chance. More than one or two at a time, just abandon ship and go grab a beer. :-)

Yeah this was ridiculous, holy christ. So the Chinese just start churning out Shangs if you sink too much of their stuff and they are dead silent, even when theyre screwing at 5 knots or even above silent running.

These torpedos are not fun. They're way too smart and it is incredibly annoying to play against them.

plan_yu9 range is 50000 yards..Run Speed=45, Homing Speed=70
change the yu9 range to 28000

plan_yu6 RangeInYards=50000...RunSpeed=40...ActiveRunSpeed=65
Adjust these numbers as well.

Look in the weapons file, search for yu6 and yu9...tune these torps down...speeds and warhead values.

Both pack a serious warhead. Reduce the warhead to 330-400. Someone coding this is apparently loves Chinese. China only wishes they could take on the US Navy. Dream On!

While I do find evading the over amped torpedoes rather irritating and sometimes monotonous, having to do so occasionally is a good reminder of the consequences of not properly stalking and defeating your enemy. Sometimes, it’s my situational awareness that was lacking some detail(s) that I either hadn’t detected yet or overlooked. Even driving the modern US boats, getting locked by your own ADCAP because you got too close to the action can set the stage for some serious underwater pirouettes until you can get it pointed back at your intended target. Doh!

I’m not the most patient of warriors so I do create some problems for myself knowing full well that I am doing so when I shoot a target on a direct bearing or whatnot. Most of the time shooting at something results in something being shot back at you. If you then have to spend 30 minutes responding to this return fire, it’s probably your own fault and you now know that you should to be more careful with boats carrying these 30 minute dramatic interludes or at least be prepared to commit to them for the duration.

well, in any case, I would certainly adjust those torps numbers down to closely reseemble what the US and RU have. Looking at those figures, we can do one of two things- either have our torps run that long and pack that much kinetic punch, or adjust their values down to match with ours. I'm surprised their running speeds aren't 75kts and 85kts for homing in on a target....Or, another option, simply load up the Yu torps on our boats =O
