Could have been a winner
Been watching this game for months now. Looks like everything I want in a sub game. Been waiting for a good sale because as good as it is I rarely if ever buy a game at $40+ anymore. Game is finaly on sale but every time I check these forums seems like its a dead game as far as communication from these devs. Too bad looks like a really cool game too. Hope things change and i can catch it on another sale.

And they, being developers, rarely if ever make a sub game anymore because the money just isn't there for these types of titles. As much as some players say they want it, when the time comes to support these teams that go out on a limb with a niche title, service the fans with additional material, some people then balk and start caterwauling over the price.

I understand what your saying. Im not saying the game is not worth $40. I have never played it after all. What im saying is i have a budget I work on and I am only wiling to pay so much for any game.

The price aside. Its more I see that there are no active devs on the forums. I have broken my rule for games that look like they will get continuous support down the road but I have been watching this game for months. All i see are people asking where the devs are and no communication. Im sure its a fun enjoyable game. Im just not convinced to spend my money on a game that may never get any further support down the road.

Thanks for the reply.

Well, as Cold Waters is not quite a simulator, and not quite an arcade game... Maybe not enough people buy it, due to the casual players not wanting to spend the time learning the basics needed to understand the game, while the hard core simulator players just feel it's not good enough as a simulator. You miss out on customers in both segments...

As a submariner, there are things in game that make me go "Aw... COME ON!", from time to time, but man I still find it entertaining...

I understand what you are saying. With my background, I could roll my eyes over every military shooter ever made. But I do not and instead enjoy them where I can. I spent some transitory time on subs (a ride to work) and know enough to be aware that there are areas in the game that are not realistic. Most certainly. A pure sim was not their goal of the dev team either. But that isn't the point. The fact is submarine titles, of the sim variety or of the sim lite variety simply are not made in this day and age except once in a blue moon. What they have done here is attempt to walk the line and provide enough realism to please one crowd while playing enough arcade elements to please non-hardcore enthusiasts as well. Setting out to appeal solely to sim purists or to arcade only people would not have provided the sales either. The sim only crowd certainly would not have been numerous enough to support the game. At the end of the day a game has to be financially viable. Now that's realism. And this game, on a cost per hour basis for a gamer is an exceptional bargain even at $40. If gamers cannot support such efforts then they have no one to blame when years pass without such a game appearing on the horizon.

Is the game not complete as is? What support from the deva do you need to buy and enjoy it as is?

We are active and read the forums daily.
At this time we're not ready to comment on or announce what our plans are and right now we're taking a long overdue and well-earned rest over the holiday period.

Check out subsim.com. There's plenty of mods out there and active people playing the game.

mrg211, take advantage of the sale if you desire great value.
The game is super fun and 'complete' in that you can play a bunch of single missions and several campaigns for tens of hours with plenty of replay value. There are no real bugs preventing enjoyment of the game.

Hopefully we'll see a little more polish and some new content in future, if not, it would still be a great game.

I held off buying this game for a whole year after been a Red Storm Rising classic fan. The game is tons of fun, I have no regrets purchasing it.

If you're unsure, watch a couple of 'lets play' videos to be sure it's the kind of game you'd play.

If you like shooting torpedoes and sinking ships/subs buy this game. It's the only recent sub release and it will I suspect be a long time before there is another sub game made.

The more who invest their $$$ the greater likelihood that the title will see additional work and content.

Currently on sale, so you have no excuse unless whining and complaining is more alluring or your Mommy won't advance you your weekly allowance.

*** Merry Christmas KFG. Thx for your post above. I knew you were still around…

Merry Christmas to everyone there at Killerfish. Looking forward to your next announcement, be it an add-on or a completely new game. Happy Holidays.

Admitedly on second look I can see how the title of the post could rub some people the wrong way. Thank you for the response KIllerfish Games. Did not mean to come across as bad mouthing the game. Will give it a shot and thanks for all the feedback.
