*EDIT* Been reading up on some articles, mentioning a circle. There is none.
*EDIT* Been trying to creep in very close, still nothing, and i am certainly meant to blow something on land up
*EDIT* i am literally hugging the entrance to the enemy port, nothing! Come on devs, a port strike like this oughta be atleast somewhat straight forward.
First off, it is quite possible to be intercepted just as you think you have reached your target.
If this happens, the ports will be on your map, but launching your missiles will do Jack Crap, because you are not yet in the target area.
In the pre-combat screen, where you choose "go to battle stations" or "close to xx kyds" there will be a green text confirming you are in the area where missiles are to be launched.
From there it's just to go ahead and fire your eight missiles. They are pre-programmed so four will hit one target, and four will hit the other. The blue dot is no more.
Bonus:
There are sinkable ships in the harbour if you manage to sneak in there. In another port, Gremika, you will find two Delta SSBN's.
Only ships that pop up on sonar and radar are sinkable. The other ships are just for show.
Use torpedoes not missiles, as they will fail...

You may fire your 8 missiles as soon as you enter the mission. You can split your missiles between the two ports if that is an option or you can fire them all at just one port. The missiles are individually targeted and will fly to where they are supposed to go.
You can check mission success by pressing <escape> and in the middle of the mission details you will see a line that is green saying mission complete or a yellow/orange line indicating that the mission objective has not yet been satisfied. You do not need to wait for the missiles to arrive on target before checking.
Nah... They are pre-assigned...
I once fired four at one port, and the remaining four at the other, but two of the missiles targeted at the first port headed for port two, and the other way around, so where you aim has no bearing on what target your missiles will hit...
Also, even if quite a few of my eight missiles have ended up in mountain sides, I have always had successful missions...

Taken from the changelog.txt file...
"Removed red TLAM circle from Strike from the Sea Single Mission as TLAMs auto home added as of version 1.08c"
"Land Strike missions no longer display or require a "target zone", just fire anywhere and the TLAM counts as away"
I like the old way better, having to slink into launch range.
I whole hartedly agree... I still creep in close, and I do it just to get the added bonus of sinking the moored ships in the harbours. Well, the ones that can be sunk that is... It still bothers me there are more ships in the harbour, but they are there just for show, and they don't show up on radar or sonar.
When I waste an hour and a half to sneek in to the harbour, getting the satisfaction of sinking everything that floats in there seems only fair to me...
Pray for the Gremika mission, and make sure you sneek in to kill the two SSBN's there... You might have to resort to manual torpedo guidance to avoid hitting the bottom or the edge of the pier, but it's totally worth the long mission time...
