Towed Array?
I is there any command to deploy the towed sonar array or is this broken?

Currently in Cold Wates the towed array is automatic so no command is needed. As a plus the array doesn't break at high speeds or if in reverse. The towed will temporarily stop working if you are near the sea floor (Im told). The towed array is treated as the same depth as the others so no hanging it across the layer.

All correct including the TA being useless when near (within 200ft) the bottom.
If your sub is equipped with a TA it's deployed and listening so long as you're more than 200ft off the sea floor, by default.

In addition to the other comments, the towed array performs best when moving at 5 kts or less.

Ah! 200 feet from the bottom. That makes sense but I didn't know the number- explains why my towed array was reading 0 so much the past couple hours.

That's an estimate on my part, but seems right about right. Watch the number next to your TA reading in the sound read out. If you have a TA on your boat and it's reading 0 instead of +/- #, chances are it's dragging.

@TalonCG I reckon you are on the money there, I worked it out by trial & error (but it took me a little while).
Lots going off in the background in this sim - lot's of depth to it (badoom 'tish)

It gets instantly reeled in once you pass approximately 170 to 180 feet from the bottom.

The towed array was rendered in 3D in earlier builds but was later removed and turned into more of an abstract system, I assume because many a new player is going to forget to reel it in before maneuvers or reel it out to find targets and that would be an obstacle to the quicker gameplay envisioned by the devs.

There's been enough of a commotion about it that they're working on a full implementation.

Having it the way it is now is fine IMO. Low priority. I've read that it's on their list of things to try to do though.

That's only with the Epic Mod. It functions exactly as above in vanilla.

Yeah best thing about Epic mod is you can manually control TA

So now for both the Epic and the Dot Mods.. Backspace is used to deploy and retrieve the Towed Array.

At least in Dot Mod, it breaks if you go to fast. In Dot Mod currently (version 0.10f), you have to visit Port to fix it once it breaks, so uou lose it for the rest of your mission if you leave it out and go faster than 15 knots.
