Sitting on bottom of the sea
Can I hide from pinging ships by sitting still on the bottom?

Passively yes. However, active radar is based on the shape of your ship, so even if you sit still that doesn't matter. However, active radar has less range than passive one.

I find chilling on the bottom next to an enemy wreck to be a very effective tactic.

You're an idiot. Radar doesn't even work underwater. It's called Sonar. Idiot.

Actually i think sitting on the bottom might work. Guess it depends on how sensitive the sonar is, weather it can distinguish between the sea floor and the upper hull that would be about 30 feet above the sea floor.

In theory. Sitting next to a wreck should merge your active sonar return, the veries noise from a recent wreck should also mask you from passive.

Second this. Since the airborne radar has the same issue detecting low flying objects, should the active sonar have the issue too? But I don't know if this is modeled in this game, probably we will need someone who are familiar with the game files to tell us if there's such implementation in the game.
